Centre for Rural Studies Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie - 248179 CALL FOR PAPERS for National Workshop on “The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006”, April 2015 Organized by: Centre for Rural Studies, LBSNAA, Mussoorie The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dweller’s (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, popularly known as the Forest Rights Act (FRA) came into force on January 1, 2008 as one of the measures to empower the tribal and forestdwellers in the country. This act is the outcome of a prolonged fight by the tribal and the marginal communities for their rights over the forestland, which they have been dependent on over the ages. The main objective of the Act is to recognize the rights of the communities including the tribal and the forest-dwellers and to encourage their participation in the conservation and management of the forests, forest products and wildlife. Looking into the complexities, and impediments to interpretation and implementation of the Act since its inception, the Centre for Rural Studies, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie is organizing a national level workshop on “The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006” in second half of April 2015 at the premises of the Academy in Mussoorie. The main theme of the workshop is “The Forest Rights Act: A Revisit” with the following subthemes:  Rights related to forest products,  Community rights vs individual rights,  Rights related to access,  Inter-state issues and good practices of the states and  Rights related to marketing of forest products,  Challenges and Opportunities. Papers are invited from the individuals such as the administrators, bureaucrats, academicians, scholars, researchers, government officials, activists and others actively working in the field are requested to submit papers on the subject. Papers should be within the limit of 8000 words and should include abstracts and annotated bibliography. Important Dates Last date to Receive Abstracts: 28 February, 2015 Date of Intimation for Acceptance of Abstracts: 10 March 2015 Submission of Full Length Papers: 31 March 2015 Workshop Dates: April 2015 (Exact dates will be intimated soon) Selected papers will be considered for publication in the edited volume by the CRS. Abstract sho uld be about 250 words with maximum 4-5 keywords. Article should be within the limit of 8000 words.
