SPEAKERS BIOGRAPHIES Maria is the founding partner of www.AngelLab.co.uk, one of London’s most active VC firms with investments in some of the fastest growing UK tech startups. She is also Entrepreneur in Residence at INSEAD Business School. AngelLab was founded in 2012 to invest in exceptional entrepreneurs who build category-defining tech businesses. AngelLab’s 13 managing partners, who invest their own funds, have to date invested in 27 start-ups the valuation of which grew 2.5 times to reach £125m. Their portfolio includes one of London’s top 10 Fintech stars (Azimo), an Adtech start-up that raised $7.5m Series A follow-on funding in record time (Adbrain), a global award-winning leader in talent mobility (Move Guides) and a pioneer of social commerce (Shopa). AngelLab is now backed by the Mayor of London: in December 2014 it was announced that AngelLab has been selected as the official co-investment partner for the Mayor’s £80m fund. Previously, Maria was a general partner at the Geneva-based family office VC xMillion Capital looking after the Office’s interests in the US and Europe and before that she was a Senior Manager at Andersen and Ernst &Young working on web-enablement & process re-engineering. An advocate of engaging more women in tech startups, she set up Incito Ventures FinanceSE to invest in female-led tech startups and served on the board of the US women-focused accelerator www.Astia.org . Maria is an invited speaker at events such as the Cambridge Wireless conference, the Royal academy of Engineering, the MWC with the UKTI mission, the Tech World, Mobile Monday and Women 4 INSEAD Entrepreneurship Forum – 21st of May 2015 Technology and serves as jury for business venture competitions at INSEAD and Cambridge Judge Business School. She has served as volunteer on the Surrey Board of The Young Enterprise and was a Champion of the creative businesses portfolio of The Prince's Trust. She studied engineering at Imperial College London and the National Technical University of Athens, has an MBA from Cranfield School of Management and attended the VC/PE executive course at Harvard Business School.
