GESIS appoints a new director for its Data Archive for the Social Sciences Dr. Alexia Katsanidou took over the position of director of the Data Archive for the Social Sciences at GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences on 1 April 2015. In her new position, Alexia will continue to represent GESIS at CESSDA governing and advisory bodies. Dr. Alexia Katsanidou now leads the department “Data Archive for the Social Sciences” the central data infrastructure in Germany with primary focus in providing excellent data service for national and international comparative surveys from the fields of social and political science research. With 60 members of staff divided into seven teams the department curates international surveys, which must comply with clearly defined methodological and technical requirements, archives national and international data and disseminates them in a user-friendly manner. She is a political scientist with experience in quantitative science and data. She coordinates the work of CESSDA Training and also teaches Data Management and Anonymisation issues. Her research interests vary from political science (European politics, elections and parties) to data science (data collection, incentives for data sharing, data management). Additionally she is an expert in European Data Infrastructures and leads projects on data harmonisation and data management portals. Alexia founded CESSDA Training in 2011.
