“Japanese Lady” 41” X 49” Machine pieced by Sheryl
Eramo. Long-arm quilted by Janiel Miller. This quilt
is from the Curves around the Rectangle pattern
by Judy Sisneros from her Rectangle Pizzazz book.
This was one of the first workshops I took from the
series of programs presented by the Valley of the Mist
Quilters Guild. I fell in love with the Japanese
designs and the beautiful material.

Haskell. This pattern called my name. I liked the
idea of using blue jeans in a quilt. A friend gave me
some leather samples; had the velvet, brocade and
some dyed fabric so away I went! Pattern by Hollis

embellished by Cheri McDowell. This quilt was
designed & made in a class given by my cousin, Jill
Gorski, of Jillions of Buttons. So much fun picking out
the buttons…..some old & some new!

“Hop To It” 63” x 76” Hand wool appliqued, machine
pieced, & machine quilted by Cheri McDowell.
My first adventure in the wonderful world of wool
applique is this quilt…pattern “Hop To It” by Edyta
Sitar. This block of the month project from Primitive
Gatherings took 2 years to complete. Set together
with Cherrywood hand dyed fabrics, the entire quilt
was a joy to work on!

“Cosmic Woman” by M. Marlene Oaks, dimensions
22 ½ square; Techniques I used: I drew her on fabric,
quilted her and the feathers and then painted with
fabric paint. I added fiber trim to the border and made
an asymmetrical border. I love exploring combining
quilting and painting.

“Take a Bow” by Shirley Brown 25” x 18” mixed
media quilt drawn on fabric with ink; embellished by
machine thread painting and hand embroidery and
machine quilted by Shirley Brown. I made this quilt
using a pattern by Patt Blair, fabric artist in a 3 day
class held here in Temecula. My inspiration was my
beautiful granddaughter, Katie...both bring a smile to
my face.

“Pacific Heights,” 33’’x20’’ by Sandy Besanson,
“Tuscan Village,” 29’’x22’’ by Sheri Eramo, (left to
right). All quilts were machine pieced and quilted
using the log cabin pattern. These quilts were begun
in Flavin Glover’s class at the 2012 Long Beach
International Quilt Festival. Italy, California & London,
where in the world do you imagine these colorful little
row houses?

machine pieced and quilted by Sara Kalinin.
Teacup Designs by Stitchgirl.Teacups are like
handheld works of art. There are so many beautiful
patterns and styles, it’s really hard to choose just one!
Looking at this quilt makes me want to sit down for tea
and have polite and elegant conversation with friends.

“Serengeti #1”
23 ½” x 22”
Improvisational machine pieced, appliquéd, and
needle-felted by Miyo Inouye-Krescth. These animal
prints and African-inspired fabrics brought
back memories of a safari to Kenya/Tanzania –
acacia trees in the hot, dusty savannah,the thrill
of animal sightings, the wonderful, spicy tastes and
aromas of African food.

quilted by Ruth O’Neill. This table runner with its 130 yoyo flowers and leaping rabbits brings any spring table
to life.

I was fortunate to take 2 classes from Sharon Schamber,
Piec-Lique and Machine Quilted Feathers. I used many
techniques I learned from her to finish this quilt sampler,
including Sharon’s hand-basting. “Shining Sunflower”
31” X 45”. Pieced, Machine Quilted, and Beaded by
Jan Dolan
“Fork in the Road” 34” by 21” by Laura Haskell. My
son inspired me when he a little guy; he couldn’t
find the fork in the road. I had fun putting this
together. He is 38 now but I always remembered his
question about not finding the fork in the road.

Crazy for California

“Rainbow Vortex”: 43” in diameter, Paper-pieced
and machine quilted by Abby Van Buskirk. Inspired by an
original design by Rhonda Adams. This year I discovered
the joy of spiral quilts and I have always believed Mother
Nature provided us with the most spectacular color
palette…the rainbow. Marrying the two yielded this
vortex of color.

Poletti and machine quilted by Suzanne Borcherds.
This quilt really caught my eye when I first saw it with
the black polka dots against the bright primary colors. I
also liked the many stars in the quilt. Hence the name,
Sparkle Plenty!

“Kelly’s Whimsical Garden” 43” x 36” Designed and
pieced by Pat Jordan. Machine quilted by Marci
Schaffer. Art quilt using the raw edge collage method.
Fabric is hand dyed. I was inspired to make this quilt
after learning this new technique and wanting to design
a wall hanging for my stepdaughter. I love gardening
and flowers so this was a natural theme for me to use.
The hand dyed fabric provides the bright colors and
adds character to the whimsical flowers. This quilt has
become one of my favorite quilts.

pieced by Sheryl Eramo. Long-arm quilted by Suzanne
Borchard. Pattern by Eleanor Burns from her “Quilts
from El’s Kitchen” book. See page 206 for a picture
of this quilt. It was a blast to take El’s monthly class
with friends and see all the beautiful quilts produced
by these talented ladies. It was great fun to make all
the traditional blocks and to try the associated recipes.

“A” Train 24 ½” x 16” by Miyo Inouye-Kretsch
Machine appliquéd and quilted on commercial and
hand-colored fabric. I had fun with this simple piece by
needle-felting wool roving for the clouds, and adding
plastic ties for the coupling rods, and a Christmas minilight for the engine light.
“Transportation” 44” x 44” Machine pieced and
appliquéd by Annette Fecteau. Machine quilted by
Maria Salagi. I work for TVUSD in their transportation
department as a school bus driver. I made this quilt to
hang in the lobby.

appliquéd and machine quilted by Miyo InouyeKrestch. The making of a hostess gift-basket (with
Chile Hedz goodies) left me with a piece of chili
pepper-themed fabric. I made this simple quilt using
that small bit, and even smaller bits of hand-dyed
fabric.

“Morning Java” 52”x60” Designed, machine pieced and
machine quilted by Chontelle Coerper.
The colors of this fabric caught my eye and I just knew
I had to design a quilt with it. The funny thing is I like
the smell of coffee, but hate the taste.

“Praying With Icons” Dimensions “27x34” by
M. Marlene Oaks. Techniques used: I drew Jesus on
the cloth (looking at the original icon), painted, then
thread painted and framed with brocade, pearls and
braid and quilted it. This Jesus as teacher icon inspires
me.

Machine quilted by Linda Smith. This bright, colorful
and festive material reminded me of my grandmother
and our Hispanic culture. This quilt was designed,
made and given to my dad in remembrance of her.
