Volunteers and staff took the opportunity to celebrate Earth Day by and replanting flowers and grasses in the
containers in front of the Community Center and on the back patio.
Pickleball in Wilsonville
The new pickleball courts in Memorial Park have been put to good use with all the sunny weather this spring
this summer six “Introduction to Pickleball” Clinics will be held in Memorial park, for new and beginning players to
learn more about the game. The one day clinics will be held on the following dates: Mondays- 6/8, 7/6 and 8/3,
and Tuesdays 6/16, 7/14 and 8/11. There is a $15 charge for each clinic, and participants can sign up at Wilson
ville ParksandRec.com or in person at the Community Center. If you are new to Pickleball, it is a sport that is fun for
the entire family. It is also easy on the body, social challenging and fun! Students who register for the clinics will
learn: basic strokes, court positioning and the (weird) scoring system. Loaner paddles will be provided. Participants
should wear sturdy shoes and bring bottled water and sun screen. If you’d like to see Pickleball play at a competitive
level, the Summer Sizzle Pickleball tournament will be in Memorial Park on Saturday, June 13 from 8:30am to
4:30pm. Spectators are welcome!
Medicare 101- Extra Help
United HealthCare will present Medicare 101 the first Tuesday of every month from 11am to Noon at the Commu
nity Center. The session will cover the basics of Medicare including what to expect when turning 65 or qualifying on
the basis of disability. Medicare advantage, Medicare supplement overview or help with prescription drugs or other
programs available. There is no charge for this program.
A Warm Welcome for Center Guests
Mary Vanderwielen has been a long-time volunteer for the Community Center. She can often be found serving
up lunch for the senior nutrition program, or visiting with other participants in the lobby or computer lab. One of
Mary’s favorite pastimes is cheering on her home team, the Green Bay Packers. When Community Center staff
found out Mary’s brother and sister in law, also big Packer fans, were coming in from Wisconsin and joining us for
lunch at the Center, they moved into action. On Friday, when Mary and her relatives arrived at the Center, they
were warmly welcomed and seated in the multipurpose room. When it was time to serve lunch, all the seniors at the
table received a delicious lunch of Chicken Alfredo and Mary was served a delicious plate of cheese and crackers,
to honor her Cheese head heritage. Kerry Rappold, Tod Blankenship and Robb Rollins joined in on the fun, sharing
Packers and Bears memories with Mary’s family.
Summer Fun in the Sun
Zumba Gold in the Park is back! Instructors Jean Viets and Heidi Baum are ready to take your workout to the next
level with Zumba Gold. The Friday Zumba class will be offered on in Town Center Park from 6/5 - 8/7 and 8/14 –
10/2 from 9am – 9:45 am. The 8 session class will be offered for a charge of $40 for adults 55+ and $50 for adults
54 and under.
A Personal Touch
Add a creative flair to your personal notes with hand crafted greeting cards. Instructor Joan Elder is offering
another card making workshop on Tues. 6/16 from 9:00am to Noon at the Center. The workshop is $20 for all
participants. Everyone will go home with six homemade cards, and all supplies are included.
All Skill Levels Welcome!
New! Ukulele Jam
Come one down to the Community Center on Wednesdays from 6pm – 8pm and join our newest musical offering.
There is no charge to participate and the group meets on an ongoing basis starting in May. Beginners will
learn basic technique; advanced players will take us to new musical horizons. All will have fun and enjoy the
classic musical approach: the song circle. Pass or play a song of your choice when it's your turn--our resource
book will be decided but if you have the Ukulele 365, the PUA books or anything else, bring them to the first
meeting. We're all a work in progress, so all levels are encouraged--if you're brand new to the Uke, we'll take some
time assessing the overall level and make sure we all get what we came for without being overwhelmed or undernourished. Wilsonville deserves a great Ukulele opportunity and many thanks go to the Park & Rec plus a shout out
to Marshall Watkins for sowing the fields with his Ukulele workshops! Keep Strumming!!

At the end of the meeting, Patricia Lictenstein resigned from the board. She wishes to join other

the hours she gave daily collecting the receipts from Lambs and tallying them up monthly. This was a
very devoted, time consuming task.
