For the adventurous! Join Fort Whyte alive on Tuesday, May 12 at 10:00am, for a guided
hike. You will hike beyond Lake Cargill to the top of Bison Butte, with a great view of the
city (approximately 4km). All participants are asked to dress appropriately for the weather
(rain or shine) and meet at 10:00am in the Alloway Reception Centre.
Cost: $6
(to be paid to Fort Whyte at time of arrival).
Here’s the Scoop! It was such a rocky road this past winter, we are so glad that the nice
weather is finally here! And we can think of no better way to celebrate than to have a “make
your own sundae” party! On Thursday, May 21 at 1:30pm come to the Centre for spoonfuls
of fun. We will have a sundae bar and a large variety of yummy toppings. Enjoying our ice
cream outside would be the cherry on top of this party– but there is a chance of sprinkles! Cost: $3.50
On Wednesday, May 27, join us for a guided tour of the newly updated
Assiniboine Park Zoo. Take a trip on the wild side as we discover animals
and what’s new at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. Explore the Butterfly Garden and learn about Manitoba’s
beautiful butterfly species. The tour will take place at 1:00pm and will last about an
hour. Meet before 1:00pm at the Zoo’s entrance, located directly off Roblin at 2595
Roblin Blvd. Feel free to stay longer after the tour and spend some extra time at
your favourite exhibits. Cost: $21 per person (includes admission and tour) We
need at least 10 people for this tour, so please sign up ASAP!
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM)
This year’s AGM is on Wednesday, June 3 at 10:00am. This is your opportunity to receive information
and ask questions about the upcoming year.
It is with mixed feelings that we announce the retirement of Joanne, our Executive Director, this June.
Joanne has been with the Centre since January 2002, and is responsible for helping the Centre
renovate and expand into our current location in the Municipal Building.
Join us for a light breakfast of coffee and muffins, and bid farewell to Joanne as well as the Board
members who are stepping down.
Please sign up at the office so we know you’re coming. There is no cost to attend.
Join us on Friday, June 5 at 11:30am for a potluck barbecue. The Centre will
provide all beef hotdogs and members are invited to bring their specialty dishes
to share with the group. Some suggestions include appetizers, salads, side
dishes, fruits, veggies or dessert.
Cost: $2.00 if you are bringing a dish, $5.00 if you do not wish to bring a dish.
Please sign up in advance at the office.

In 1939, newly created British intelligence agency MI6
recruits Cambridge mathematics alumnus Alan Turing
(Benedict Cumberbatch) to crack Nazi codes, including
Germany’s World War II Enigma machine -- which
cryptanalysts had thought unbreakable. Turing's team,
including Joan Clarke (Keira Knightley), analyze Enigma
messages while he builds a machine to decipher them.
In a desolate region of the North American southwest
was a civilization that rivalled the Mayan and Inca
cultures. Through oral traditions and the discovery and
exploration of crumbled cities and villages, the story of
the Anasazi is only beginning to unfold. This provocative
program reveals the truth behind the mystical practice of
Voodoo. Stereotyped as "sinister and bizarre," Voodoo
is a blend of west African beliefs and Roman
Catholicism. Visually arresting dance and drumming
ceremonies demonstrate the intricacies of this religion.
