4-H Council
Meeting
TUESDAY
Dear 4-Her’s, Parents, and Leaders,
School is almost out and 4-H is winding up! We know many of you have started your projects
for the fair and want to encourage you to continue working on them as the fair is just around
the corner. Make sure to read the newsletter and mark you calendars with dates and deadlines.
Thank you for all your participation in registering for Walk for Hope and for selling quilt raffle
tickets and colored links! T-shirts can be picked up from the Extension Office anytime
on Wednesday, May 6th through May 13th. Also, don’t forget to turn in your quilt ticket
money and colored link money at that time. We are proud to say Chaves County 4-H
registered 102 participants! Luminaries are being sold for $5 and can be purchased in memory
or in honor of a friend or loved one. Remember, all monies stay in Chaves County to help cancer victims. Come join us in the fun on Friday, may 15th, 6 pm at Cielo Grande
Recreation Area.
We would like to remind and encourage our Novice and Junior 4-Hers to participate in County
and District Contest and our Senior 4-Hers to participate in and State 4-H Conference. Did
you know that there is a Poetry Contest, Favorite Foods Contest, Meats ID Contest,
Horticulture and Parliamentary Procedure Contest, just to name a few, and others our 4-Hers
can choose from to compete? Dates and times didn’t make this newsletter but will be sent out
via email and Facebook. Don’t forget to turn in your County Contest Sign-In sheet!! County
Contest will be held June 11th and District Contest will be June 17-18th. Give us a call if you
have any questions.
Show season will soon be upon us and as you are caring for your 4-H animals, please let us
know if you need help. Chick orders are due May 21 at the Extension Office for County Fair so
don’t miss out! Call the office to schedule a time if you would like to weigh your animals.
See you at Walk for Hope!

Walk For Hope
Chaves County 4-H Council has chosen cancer awareness as a Community Service
Project for the year. They will be participating in the 6th annual Chaves County Cancer Fund Walk for Hope which will be held May 15, 2015 at Cielo Grande Recreation Area at 6:00 pm to midnight.
We need your help with this very worthwhile community service.
There are several ways to help as an individual or club:
1.
3.
4.
5.
Walkers Needed - We need 4-Hers, parents and leaders to walk! Walkers will walk on May 15, 2015, from 6:00 pm
to 12:00 pm. (You do not have to walk the whole time!) Come out and walk when you can. Registration to walk for
each participant is $5.00 for youth and $10.00 for adults. Survivor’s are FREE but need to sign up. There is
paperwork that must be filled out for each walker and release forms signed for youth. Your leader will be receiving
registration forms.
Colored Links - We will be selling colored Links. Links are 25 cents each or 5 for $1.00. Links will be connected to
make a chain which will be on display at Walk for Hope to show we are all united in this cause.
Luminaria Bags for Sale - Bags can be purchased for $5.00 in memory or honor of your loved one or friend. The
bags will be set up on the walking trail. Council officers and office will have them for sale and proceeds go directly
to Chaves County Cancer Fund. Walk for Hope is needing 1000 LED lights for luminaries. If you are interested in
helping toward this purchase please let the office know.
Workers Needed - A tent/canopy will be set up at the site for our group. We can decorate it however we like. At
the booth we will sell quilt raffle tickets throughout the night. We will also provide hotdogs and water to our
4-Hers. We are working with the Extension Clubs and they will also be selling tickets, walking and helping us that
night.
THANK YOU for your participation in this community service project.
