CLUB OF THE MONTH
Hello 4-Her’s, Leaders, & Parents,
We are getting closer to spring even though the weather seems to be confused about it!
Projects meetings have kicked off and we are very excited to be working with you all in all
the different programs. We want to give a big thank you to our volunteer leaders who are
helping with the project meeting. If you would like to be a project leader, call the office
and we will set it up! Livestock sales are being scheduled and many are listed in the
newsletter. If you need help finding show animals, please call. Also, be sure to check out
ownership deadlines and mark tagging dates in your calendars!
The enrollment deadline for Chaves County 4-H is March 31st. This early deadline
allows youth to have a chance to attend at least 40% of their meeting before showing and
judging season kicks off. Remember you have to attend your meeting in order to
participate in fairs! Turn in your enrollment forms to your club leader, and they will turn
the forms into the office. Amie, our 4-H secretary, is working very hard on putting all of
your project materials together and some have already received them. Be sure to look for
them at your next meeting!
The last Western Region Leaders e-Forum will be on March 2nd. I encourage leaders to
attend as it will focus on working in the community. There will also be a MANDATORY
4-H Club Leaders Meeting on March 13th. It is very important for club leaders to
attend so we can discuss state regulations. Walk for Hope, our county wide community
service project, is just around the corner! Packets will be delivered to your organizational
leader. Registration is $5 for youth, $10 for adults, and FREE for survivors. To receive a
t-shirt you must be registered by April 1st. We will also be selling quilt tickets, colored
links, and luminarias for our fundraisers for this event. This is a great event and helps
those who have been affected by cancer in Chaves County. Please make plans to join us!
& MUCH MORE….

Walk For Hope
Chaves County 4-H Council has once again chosen cancer awareness as a
Community Service Project for the year. They will be participating in the
6th annual Chaves County Cancer Fund - Walk for Hope which will be held
Friday, May 15, 2015 at Cielo Grande Recreation Area at 6:00pm to midnight.
We need your help with this very worthwhile community service.
There are several ways to help as an individual or club:
1.
Walkers Needed - We need 4-Hers, parents and leaders to walk! Walkers will walk
on May 15, 2015 from 6:00pm to 12:00pm. (You do not have to walk the whole time!)
Come out and walk when you can. Registration to walk for each participant is $5.00
for youth (18 & under) and $10.00 for adults. Survivor’s are FREE but need to sign
up. There is paperwork that must be filled out for each walker and release forms
signed for youth. Your leader will be receiving registration forms.
2.
Quilt Raffle - We are selling tickets for a Quilt/Throw to be raffled that night
at the walk. We need help in selling these tickets in April and May! Tickets are
$1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. You do not need to be present to win. Proceeds from
the quilt will be donated to Walk for Hope.
3.
Colored Links - We will be selling colored Links. Links are 25 cents each or 5 for
$1.00. Links will be connected to make a chain which will be on display at Walk for
Hope to show we are all united in this cause.
4.
Luminaria Bags for Sale - Bags can be purchased for $5.00 in memory or honor of
your loved one or friend. The bags will be set up on the walking trail.
Council officers will have them for sale and proceeds go directly to Chaves
County Cancer Fund. Walk for Hope is needing 1000 LED lights for luminarias. If
you are interested in helping toward this purchase please let the office know.
5.
Workers Needed - A tent/canopy will be set up at site for our group. We can
decorate it however we like. At the booth, we will sell quilt raffle tickets
throughout the night. We will also provide hotdogs and water to our 4-Hers.
We are working with the Extension Clubs and they will also be selling tickets,
walking and helping us that night.
THANK YOU for your participation in this community service project.
