Course Cost: $1850 -- including manuals, basic tool you can keep and lodging for two
nights at our facility
Scope of Course: VSS and CG will provide a comprehensive three (3)-day class to provide
instruction so you can build your own AK-47/74 variant and take it home with you upon
completion. Class size is capped at 10 and custom courses are available to be discussed. For
beginners and professionals who use or admire the AK series of weapons, VSS and CG will start
Friday with inspecting the parts kits and receivers, explain the schedule of the build instruction,
building modules to progressively build your rifle up to parkerizing and painting then allow
familiarization fire of your new AKs ending the course. Students will also have the opportunity
to fire Post 86 AK variants, our VSS Machine Guns, and the VSS Operator AK. While this
course is focused on the AKM, many of the gunsmithing and basic machining skills learned will
transfer to other weapons.
The builder’s course will cover:
• Parts kit and receiver inspection points to ease building
• Tool usage for assembling the rifle
• Proper riveting preparation and procedures
• Pressing of barrel components and understanding of inference/clearance fits
• Inspection points to ensure a safe firing weapon
• Expert instruction in trick of building from years of learning the hard way
• Safe and proper handling
• Disassembly/Assembly
• Basic maintenance
• Ballistic considerations
• Functioning of the weapon
• Sight adjustment/Battlefield zeroing
This training has adopted a multi-tiered approach to building, familiarization and safety.
1. The first stage consists of classroom lectures by Subject Matter Expert (SME) Cameron
Childers of Childer’s Guns and individuals who have used the weapon system in various
environments and conditions. Many are AK gunsmiths, so their level of understanding is
very extensive.
o Basic skills, safety, and familiarization are emphasized.
2. Stage two requires practical application of building the rifle in our classroom.
o We will instruct and assist you with the building of your rifle
3. The third stage involves test fire of your new AK weapon.
o Instructors will supervise the test firing of the weapons prior to live fire
familiarization instruction.
Each registered student will receive a copy of the VSS owner Erik Lawrence-authored books
prior to the course for self-study. This item is a $70 value.

Two (2) 30-round magazines with some type of magazine pouch; chest model is preferred.
Eye, ear, elbow, and knee protection (we can supply if needed)
Suitable clothing for working in a shop and for weather conditions
Rounds per student: 200 rounds of factory or surplus (no reloads) practice (ball).
Ammo may be purchased from VSS if arranged prior to class.
