Enjoy self-guided tours of Chintimini Wildlife
Center’s educational facilities and ash swale
wetland, bird-box building, children’s activities,
and more! Live birds-of-prey will be on display,
as well as videos featuring baby animals in our
care! We will also be sharing information about
rescuing injured and orphaned wild babies.
This event is part of the 6th Annual Natural Areas
Celebration Week.

Chintimini Opens Its
Doors to the Public!
For 25 years Chintimini Wildlife Center
has provided care for injured and orphaned
wildlife and has developed numerous educational programs designed
to increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of wildlife.
Chintimini has been steadily growing and expanding its educational
and outreach programs and is pleased to announce that it is now
moving to the next level by opening its doors to the public on a regular
basis.
Starting on May 2, Chintimini will be open every Saturday this
summer from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Visitors will be able to tour the
educational facilities, take a stroll in the pristine ash swale wetland, and
learn about local wildlife biology, behavior and conservation, habitat
improvement, and wildlife rehabilitation in a series of informational
and educational programs.
The highlight of the Summer Saturday Open House programs will
be a Raptor Conservation Program from 10:30 a.m. to noon each day,
featuring live birds-of-prey and free-flight demonstrations. See page
2 for an overview of these programs and a schedule of upcoming event
themes.

Chintimini provides to our community. Join us as together we explore
the Wonders of Wildlife!
Support Chintimini Wildlife Center while
enjoying an evening at The Vue! Live
entertainment, hors d’oeuvres, and
refreshments will be provided. Artwork from
well-known, nationally recognized artists, as
well as nature- and wildlife-inspired fine art
pieces donated by local artists, will be featured
in the silent auction. There will be raffle prizes,
live birds-of-prey, and opportunities to learn
more about Chintimini’s work!

Praises for the World---Jubilate
Concert in the Woods
Friday, June 19---6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Jubilate! The Women’s Choir of Corvallis joins
with Chintimini Wildlife Center to present
“Praises for the World” by Jennifer Berezan,
a Summer Solstice Concert Celebration for
our Natural World with song, poetry, chant,
and percussion. This benefit concert will be
presented in the Chintimini grove, a natural
setting to match and enhance the music. Freeflight raptor presentations will precede the
concert, and all attendees are invited to stay for
a wine/beer Summer Solstice celebration with
Jubilate after the concert.
Tickets are on sale for $30.

New! Raptor Conservation
Programs at Chintimini!
New this year to Chintimini Wildlife Center are the
weekly education events. As part of these Summer
Saturday Open House events, beginning on Saturday,
May 2 at 10:30 a.m., we will be launching our new
Raptor Conservation Program (RCP). This program is
dedicated to conservation issues concerning raptors
found in the United States and greater North America.
Included in these programs is our new free-flight
program demonstrating the adaptations of flight that
have allowed raptors to become apex predators in
almost every habitat. Showcasing the ability of these
magnificent animals allows the audience to gain a new
understanding of the skills needed to survive in the wild.
Programs designed for all ages make these events perfect
for the entire family.
Topics will include such issues as habitat loss, toxins
and poisons, automobile strikes, electrocution, etc., but
perhaps more importantly, these programs will give the
audience a sense of how everyone can help with these
issues. Through education, we can all help make the
world a better place for humans and the wildlife that
shares the world with us.

Chintimini Summer Wildlife Rangers Programs
Chintimini Wildlife Center offers a variety of youth programs
aimed at nurturing the love of nature naturally. This summer
we are offering eight camps. Each camp is packed full of
games, exploration, and science!
Pre- and post-care is available for an additional fee. Prices for each
camp varies. Thursday field trips will allow children to explore
other ecosystems in our area. Afternoon snacks are provided.
Wetlands Camps:
9 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 22–26, and June 29–July 3, Ages 8-12, Cost $200.
These camps are dedicated to the wilds of the wetlands and are a favorite among many!
Using Chintimini’s own wetland habitats, campers will discover for themselves some of the
fantastic creatures that call a pond home, while learning the importance of wetland
systems within their own world.
Wildlife Rehabilitation Camp:
9 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 6–10, Ages 9 and up, Cost $200.
This specialty camp is created from the foundation of Chintimini. Each activity is designed
to teach campers the basics in rehabilitating a wild animal. Campers will perform mock
patient admissions, evaluations, diagnostics, and treatments using the same protocols used
at Chintimini. Topics will include surgical techniques, anatomy and physiology, dietary
requirements, wild animal handling safety, and how to meet the needs of a wild animal
while it is in captivity.
Jr. Rangers Camp:
9 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 13–17, Ages 5-7, Cost $175.
This camp is designed for the young adventurer. Campers will combine exploration
and observation to connect with the world around them. This week-long adventure
explores nature through hands-on experiences, such as pond exploration, nature hikes,
active wildlife games, crafts, and stories!
Raptors: Head to Talons:
9 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 20–24, Ages 8-12, Cost $200.

This camp is for any child who loves the amazing birds of prey. Campers will learn about the
awesome adaptations it takes to be a top predator of the sky through games, activities, and
individual exploration. Additionally, special guest appearances from Chintimini’s resident
birds of prey and their handlers will provide the children with unique close encounters with
these incredible animals!
S.O.A.R. (Science of Amazing Raptors):
9 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 27–31, Ages 8 and up, Cost $225.
This year we are taking raptor knowledge to new heights to provide campers the
opportunity to investigate the world of raptors beyond the basics. Campers will work with
professional raptor trainers, wildlife rehabilitation experts, and specialized educators to learn
about advanced avian biology, current raptor research and conservation issues, and the
inner workings of CWC’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Department. Additionally, this camp includes
a Thursday overnight campout with the owls. Campers are invited to bring tents and
sleeping bags for a night of dinner over the fire, games, and the opportunities to hear the
wild owls that live in the ash swale of Chintimini.
Wilderness 101:
9 a.m. to 4 p.m., August 17–21, and August 24–28, Cost $225.

Wilderness 101 is an introductory camp designed to help young explorers gain a better
knowledge and understanding of what it takes to live in the outdoors. Under the guidance
of our expert instructors, campers will learn basic outdoor skills that include wilderness
safety and survival, gear selection, preparing a campfire, building a shelter, looking for
animal signs, identifying plants, navigating by compass, and tying knots. On Thursday,
campers have the option of camping out in their shelters and eating dinner over the fire!
This camp provides a great opportunity for young outdoor enthusiasts to build proficiency
in basic self-reliance and teamwork skills while having a blast!

Another Record-Setting Year!
The year 2014 was another record-setting
year at Chintimini Wildlife Center, with total
admissions of 1,326 injured or orphaned
animals. This brings the total number of
patients that have been admitted since
Chintimini was formed to over 20,000 animals.
Every year for the past seven years, numbers
have increased and another new record is set.
This trend is expected to continue. By this
time in 2014, 217 patients had been admitted;
this year there are already 260 admissions.
The first baby raccoon of 2015!
Chintimini’s most active months are always May, June, July, and August, when more
than half of the total number of patients are admitted. The busy season is just
beginning, and animal admission numbers are already rising. In the next few months,
an average of almost 200 animals per month, or around 6 per day, will be admitted.
