My passion and expertise is helping companies solve complex problems. My problem solving has been in very
diverse industries with unique challenges that range from creating novel microfluidic devices for medical diagnostics
to building new sensors for agriculture characterization and IED detection to developing the next generation of 3D
printers. My approach to solving problems applies to many companies. I’ve worked with innovative small businesses
and start-ups as well as large corporations. The more difficult the problem the more passionate I get in seeking
reliable solutions.

Principal Scientist

• Management & Leadership: Managed R&D’s Systems Team and the R&D Materials Group. Reported to the VP
of R&D and helped determine road maps for the department.
• Program Management: Co-wrote charter for a development program for a future 3D printer. Determined
device requirements and specifications via a QFD (Quality Function Deployment)-led design process.
• Physics: Developed models of the polymer behavior in the extruder and fluidics of the polymer melt at the
extruder exit to develop fundamental knowledge of the behavior of the system for future advancement. Gave
a lecture series on polymer physics to provide a large group with a diverse background the necessary foundations to understand the systems.
• IP Development & Collaboration: Created several new invention disclosures and dramatically expanded
MakerBot’s network with other research companies and institutions to expand fundamental knowledge of the
printers. Worked directly with legal team creating agreements. Initiated a journal club to read related science
literature. This group was responsible for roughly one internal invention disclosure per month.

• Program Management: Ran development and operations for AgVu, ARC’s subscription based agriculture
product, including leading all field operations, data transfer and flight logistics, customer delivery, and client
training.
• Project Management: Developed a novel agriculture-focused hyperspectral and infrared sensor system,
including overseeing all design reviews, prototype developments, schedules, budgets, testing, and final
integration of the sensor system into the aircraft.
• Business Development: Acted as technical spokesperson in all high level meetings with investors and business partners. Wrote and presented slide decks on ARC’s capabilities, limitations, roadmap, and market
penetration. Acted as official spokesperson in on-camera and on-air interviews about ARC’s core products.
Wrote several funding proposals and white papers each month.

• Microfluidics & Biotechnology: Developed a solid-state, microfluidic chemical reactor for probing of nucleic
acids. Designed, prototyped, fabricated, and characterized novel microfluidic devices, employing a mineral
matrix for creating localized chemical reactions for the purpose of nucleic acid “footprinting”, with millisecond
time resolution and high throughput potential.

• Lab Management: Wrote proposals to the National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS), and led experimental
runs for roughly four weeks each year. Made contacts with collaborators for samples, prioritized sample importance, and determined the run manifests. Mentored graduate students learning XRD and trained synchrotron
users.
• Equipment Management: Maintained rotating anode x-ray source at the University of Colorado and scheduled
lab time for internal and outside users. Primary contact for outside users, and primary decision maker on
whether users should operate as paying customers or as collaborators, and trained facility users.
• Experimentation: Utilized scattering expertise in both powder diffraction and aligned samples (crystallography), both at small and wide angle x-ray scattering, and microdiffraction. Worked on liquid crystals, multilayer
thin films, polymer films, aggregating DNA crystals, lipid bilayers, molecular motors, and more.
