Clubs of Arlington. A capacity crowd in the Grand Ballroom of the Arlington Convention Center cheered wildly when it was announced that the event raised $507,485 for the youth organization. The crowning glory of winning the title of Miss Cinderella 2015 belongs to Riley Mohorc, the 16-year old daughter of Kelly and Daniel Mohorc. A junior at The Oakridge School, Mohorc raised nearly $125,000 to lead the field of candidates vying for the coveted title after a six-week fundraising campaign. She was crowned by reigning Miss Cinderella Caroline Quinn. The event is produced by the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Arlington Boys & Girls Clubs and has raised around $10 million since it began in 1961 with proceeds going to fund youth programs, capital improvements and operating expenses for the nonprofit agency. Amid the pageantry characteristic of Arlington’s oldest continuing charitable and social event, the high schoolers made their parents proud as each one descended a staircase in a billowing white gown before taking a deep bow on stage. The audience heard the impressive achievements of each girl from emcee Jimmy Bennett as they were escorted by their dads. Candidates must be sophomores or juniors and be involved in school or community activities and are chosen by a selection committee that reviews applications. The student raising the highest amount wins the title. First runner-up was Martin High School junior Sarah Hoover. Second and third runners-up were, respectively, Maddie Lowe and Brittany Kasko, both from The Oakridge School, and fourth runner up was Megan Gray from Arlington High School. “The effort these 20 candidates has put into their campaign has been phenomenal,” said Julie Cerza who co-chaired the ball with Dawn Serman. “This year each candidate participated in organized fundraisers on top of their letter-writing campaign.” In a separate competition, three candidates were awarded college scholarships based on scholastic achievement, extracurricular involvement and letters of recommendation. Emma Harper won the Catherine Lautzenheiser Memorial Scholarship of $1,500. Elisabeth Crosier and Gray were awarded $1,000 and $750 respectively. Hagan Griffith received the Carol H. Zimmer Award, presented for the third time in honor of longtime Ladies’ Auxiliary member Carol Zimmer, who passed away in 2013. 2 of 3 4/5/15, 2:54 PM Oakridge School junior is crowned Miss Cinderella 2015 | The Star... http://www.star-telegram.com/news/local/community/arlington/arti... Last year’s ball shattered all previous records raising more than $823,000. The previous fundraising record was set by the 2007 ball, when candidates raised more than $650,000. “The Cinderella Ball Committee and the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington are extremely proud of this group. We know they will all continue to do amazing things in their lives,” Cerza said. Other candidates were Mary Catherine Arnott, Madeleine Calderon, Samantha Choi, Jenna Daniels, Ally Jerome, Emily Lowke, Shelby Mayo, Callie McClellan, Kaitlin McGuire, Kristin Norris, Erin O’Brien and Tiffany Smith.
