It is designed as a garden journey and takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours to walk. It is notable for its plants, its landscape design, its hardscape and its sculpture. Alzheimer’s Association Presents “Conversations About Dementia” Thurs, June 18 from 9-10:30am @ Community Campus When someone is showing signs of dementia, it’s time to talk. Often, conversations with family about dementia and their changing behaviors can be challenging and uncomfortable. Common difficult conversations are about; going to the doctor, deciding when to stop driving, and making legal and financial plans. This workshop will offer tips on how to have honest and caring conversations with family members. Program is free of charge. Pre-registration is required. The “New Beginnings” grief support group that formally met at the St. James Church now meets at the Portsmouth Senior Activity Center. The group meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 2:00-3:00pm. June 9 July 14 The first meeting will be Coffee, tea, light snacks will be served and the group will reintroduce returning participants as well as welcome new ones. This group offers the opportunity for widows and widowers to share their experiences and advice on how to move forward in life after your spouse has died. Or just listen. Those interested must have their own transportation, be able to stand for up to two hours at a time in all kinds of weather and be comfortable with directing traffic as well as children. The current position involves a shift of three daily 30-minute postings, Monday through Friday, located at the following locations and for the following times: Portsmouth Middle School at the intersection of Parrott and Richard Avenues from 2:10 to 2:30 p.m. The Portsmouth Senior High School Back entrance at Summit Ave. and South Street from 2:35 to 2:55 p.m. Little Harbor School at the intersection of Clough Drive and South Street from 3 to 3:25 p.m. Pay is $13 per stop or $39 per day or $195 per week or $780 per month.
