First Up: New Business for Wilmer
Potacool, LLC: They are a cooling system manufacture that has moved one of their
distribution centers to Wilmer, TX. into the Dalport Trade Center building located at
201 S. Interstate Highway 45. Portacool plans on at least 20,000 shipments of
production in the year 2015 out of this distribution center alone pulling in roughly
around 1,000 units each week. The facility will have 10 full-time employees and up to 14
during the busy season. The facility started full swing by February 2015 after relocating
in January 2015.

The SouthWest Affiliate of the American Heart Association (AHA) and the Wilmer Fire Department have partnered on a
community awareness initiative encouraging residents to call 911 at the first sign of a heart attack. Titled “Don’t Die of
Doubt,” this campaign communicates that lifesaving treatment begins with a call to 911 and that responders are trained
professionals who can provide care immediately and increase the chance of surviving a heart attack.
National Poison Awareness Week - Mayor Casey Burgess declared March 15th thru the 21st as National
Poison Awareness Week. Please check your homes for poisons and pesticides to protect family members
especially children from accidents. Remember the Number is 1-800-222-1222 which is the Statewide
Emergency Poison number.

Dr. Lew Blackburn School Project update:
The DISD is considering options to relieve overcrowding
at The Wilmer Elementary . One option is to build
a new school in Wilmer another option is to add
additional wings to the Hutchins Elementary site. Dr.
Blackburn and Wilmer council members prefer a school site in
Wilmer that will foster new home construction and improve
Educational quality while reducing travel distance for young
Children daily. During the next two weeks please sign the Petition for a New Wilmer School which is

Economic Development Board
Type A and B Board Appointed: The Type A and B Economic Development Boards were recently appointed by the City
Council of Wilmer. A joint meeting was held March 10, 2015 to start planning for how these boards should spend
approximately $1 million dollars to ensure creation of new jobs, improve roads, water, sewer drainage, create new commercial
and retail business, improve parks and quality of life projects for the community. Board meetings will be 1st (A) and 3rd(B) of
each Month.

Since 2012 the Wilmer property market value increased from $233,676,000 to $414,490,590.The taxable value in 2014 is
$274,377,705 and the sales tax has increased from $298,813.collected annually to $591,247. Of the thirty-one cities in Dallas
County Wilmer has the fifth lowest tax rate of .4366 per $100.00 value compared to .8789 for Wylie , .8675 Lancaster, .797 Dallas,
.795 Glen Heights, and .687134 for Ferris. A need exist to improve the City’s fund reserves for emergency needs according to a
recent audit while also investing in capital project improvements.
