NSE: NSERC Community Engagement Events, Feedback Survey

NSERC will hold two Community Engagement Visits in two cities within driving distance.
Some of the topics that will be discussed include:
• Discovery Research (update on Federal Budget, NSERC strategic plan, program news,
etc.);
• Scholarships and Fellowships (update on post-doctoral fellowships and Collaborative
Research and Training Experience program);
• Women in Science and Engineering (update on new Chairs for Women in Science and
Engineering as well as other initiatives); and
• Policies and guidelines – (update on a variety of issues ranging from grant funding
extensions to Open Access).

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is developing
a strategic plan that will help position NSERC as a vital contributor to Canada's future
prosperity over the next five years: NSERC 2020: Draft Strategic Plan for 2015-20.
This draft plan captures the discussions we had in 2014 with members of the academic
community, associations, government officials and businesses. It also incorporates the
feedback from our Council members, the special Steering Committee on NSERC 2020
and staff.

We would like your views on the following two questions:
NSERC’s vision is for Canada “to be a global leader in strengthening the discoveryinnovation continuum for the societal and economic benefit of Canadians".

Our draft strategy is based on four key goals to achieve this vision:
1. Fostering a science culture in Canada.
2. Building a diversified and competitive research base through discovery research.
3. Strengthening the discovery-innovation continuum.
4. Going global.
