Four Way Test We are pleased to announce this year's District 5750 Four Way Test Contest Winners: Dawnita Horton, a senior from John Marshall H.S. This year's contest required a video submission by entrants applying the Four Way Test to an occurrence common to teenagers today. Ms. Horton's video discussed student's decisions regarding dropping out of school while Ms. Lankford's video covered peer pressure and accountability. Both ladies did a phenomenal job! Hoof it up to the sounds of tin pan alley and dine like a big shot with some of the most Ritzy restaurants and caterers from around town. For a few clams, you can score the cat’s meow at the silent auction or roll the dice to create a little whoopee of your own. 6:30-11 PM | Friday, April 24, 2015 The Westminster Event Center 10601 S Western | Oklahoma City, OK 73170 Tickets & Sponsorship Information: [email protected] or 405-366-3296 Chandler - Irish Stew, School Kits & Student Rotarians Chandler Rotary Club's annual Irish Stew went off without a hitch. The club members pitched and helped in many aspects of the preparation of the room and the stew and the serving. All the desserts were home-made, which is always a highlight for the event too. The "master" chef, Phil Boyd, was a little down, but definitely not out. He supervised the cooking of the stew by "newbies" such as myself and because of that there were many compliments on the flavor. We served almost 200 individuals between serving there at the Christian church and by carry-outs. We made over $1200 minus expenses. All the members helped in whatever way they were able and it was truly a team effort. We are still collecting donations for our school kits that will be given out to kindergarten through 6th grade as well. We have collected over $6000 thus far. Each school kit will contain what each student will need to begin their year with supplies. This allows each student to start off the year the same as every other child. Each board member is collecting from different individuals and businesses in and around Chandler. Over 80 contacts will be made before it is all said and done in order to help pay for this project. Last Friday, 28th, we heard from our student rotarians, Carson Norrell and Madison Kimble. This was their last friday with us and so on the first friday of April we will have two new students to come to our meetings for the month. East Oklahoma County - WaterIsLife Straws For the last 5 years, the Rotary Club of East Oklahoma County has been purchasing WATERisLIFE straws. Considering issues with contaminated water is one of Rotary's areas of focus, our club is proud to continue this mission and uses this is one of our service projects. We ask that all of our program speakers sign the straws and then they are sent to those who are in need of clean and safe drinking water to survive. The two pictures show the straws from our club being given to a school in Nigeria, one being signed by our Past-President, Donna Groves. April 2015 Edmond - Flatire Burger Fundraiser & Ida Freeman Reading Edmond Club hosted a breakfast at Flatire Burgers and South Rotary Oklahoma City - Gatsby & Mischief raised several thousand dollars for worthy causes, such as coats for in-need kids and holiday meals for less fortunate students. Incoming club president Cris Price headed up the fund-raiser, and thanked Flatire for providing the food and facility at no cost. A plaque in Flatire’s honor was presented recently at the club meeting. From left are president Jay Buxton and Price. Edmond Rotarians read to Ida Freeman Elementary School students recently for “Read Across America,” which highlights the books of Dr. Seuss. Edmond Rotary Club ‘adopted’ the school more than a decade ago, and commits to read to every class weekly if not every week. The Seuss day fit right into their mission. Keith Kersten has read regularly for a decade to Nichols fifth-graders. Carol Hartzog, complete with a ‘Cat in the Hat’ hat has read to the school’s first graders for 17 years. Edmond Boulevard - Dining in the Dark Members of Edmond Boulevard Rotary recently served as ushers for UCO's "Dining in the Dark" event. This event is sponsored by the Students for an Accessible Society to raise awareness about challenges of the visually impaired. When students arrived, they donned a blindfold and were led to a table, where they ate a meal and were challenged with sensory activities.
