Pattern – Prayer Shawl/Comfort Wrap Page 1 of 3 Lattice and Cable Prayer Shawl © 2011 Ray Whiting This project does not require a strict guage, as it is knit to the width and length desired. It is recommended that a swatch in your choice of yarns be knit with at least 2 repeats wide and 2 repeats tall, and then pin-blocked severely to determine the approximate size of your finished piece, and make your stitch- count and row-count decisions based upon your own swatch measurements. This project widens significantly when pin-blocked. A comfortable worsted weight wrap in an easy-to-knit pattern, ideal for extending a tangible gift of compassion to those experience loss or other crisis. It's like a long-distance hug, reminding a loved one they are thought of, even when you can't actually be there. Pattern – Prayer Shawl/Comfort Wrap Page 3 of 3 Additional Ideas Baby Blanket: Using a superwash wool, wool/acrylic blend, or cotton, in a worsted weight suitable for infant projects, cast on a multiple of 16, plus 4. Knit the pattern as written above, starting with 10 garter stitch ridges (Knit 20 rows) top and bottom, and include a ribbed side border on each side: *K1,P1, repeat from * 8 times. Winter Scarf: Use the same instructions as for the Prayer Shawl, but omit the garter borders top and bottom, cast on 52 (i.e., 3x16, plus 4 for border), so you have 3 repeats across; and knit untl desired length. For a more “bunchy” scarf, to not pin-block, but simply wash and then push the scarf into shape, gently pulling the sides, then allow to dry flat, Other Options: The stitch design can be worked into socks, or knee-highs. © 2011 by Ray Whiting.
