Puyallup Child Care Center seeks an assistant teacher for their before and after school program working
with grades 2 - 6. Hours will be from 7 – 11 a.m. and 3 – 6 p.m. on Monday and from 7-9 a.m. and 3 – 6
p.m., Tuesday through Friday. Additional hours are required on early release days and non-school
days. The schedule will be given in advance. The position will be considered full time during school
breaks and holidays. The anticipated starting date will be Monday, April 6, 2015, sooner if
possible. Additional substitute hours may be available if desired.
The successful candidate will have experience working with school-age children and be at least 23 years
of age with a good driving record to enable driving on van runs and field trips. Starting salary will range
from $10.00 to $11.75 per hour based on education and experience in the field. Employment requires
successful completion of a background check and fingerprints with the Department of Early
Learning. The position is contingent on passing this requirement. Also required are a current, less than
6 months old negative TB test. Costs associated with these requirements will be paid by the Center.
The assistant teacher will work with the lead teacher to plan and implement developmentally
appropriate activities and field trips based on the children’s needs and interests. Paid planning time is
given.
Benefits include the equivalent of one day sick leave per month and vacation accrued at the rate of one
week for each of the first two years; two weeks for years three and four; and three weeks for year five
and beyond. Medical insurance is not offered as a benefit for this position. Educational opportunities
in the field are available through the center at no cost to the employee and we will encourage the
successful applicant to continue their education in the field.

Are you looking for an opportunity to gain experience working with toddlers in a
child care center?
This is a part-time, morning position (8:30-11:30 am, M-F) working as the primary teacher in the
toddler classroom (ages 1-2.5 years) for a small child care center in Tacoma (near the Tacoma
Mall). This is a volunteer position- however there is the potential for it to become a paid
position in the future.
Responsibilities:
 Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and learning
experiences for ages 1-2.5 years (Under guidance of the director)
 Work with the director and early achievers coach to use strategies from the
Toddler CLASS tool (positive interactions)
 Work with the director and early achievers coach to use strategies from the
Infant Toddler Environment Rating Scale (room arrangement, appropriate
materials and language development)
 Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
 6 months experience working with children ages 1-2.5 years old
 Desire to gain training and experience working with young children
 Punctual, reliable, good communication skills
 Able to provide 3 professional references (at least one previous employer)
Preferred Qualifications:
 College coursework/training in early childhood

Assistant Teacher (Aid) : The Assistant Teacher works under general supervision of the Lead
Teacher and the Director. This position assists in direct daily educational activities of children.
This position may also provide child development information to parents as necessary, and

Director: This is the supervisory position managing an early childhood program including
