GT STEP Project goals:
Increase the number of STEM majors (biology, chemistry, physics,
computer science, engineering, math) who:
1. Attain their associate degree by 10% every year of the grant.
2. Transfer to a four-year institution of higher learning by 7%
every year of the grant.

2. STEP SMART Academy Summer Bridge Program*
3. STEM Information Centers*
4. Assignment of STEM faculty advisors/mentors to GT STEP cohort
students
5. Curriculum re-design of laboratories in STEM gateway courses
Major GT STEP Project Activities
6. Academic Support Services (enhances tutoring services for the established
college centers) : a) weekly group review sessions for gateway STEM courses;
b) online STEM discipline-specific tutoring / advising; c) Peer-tutors.
7.
Undergraduate research opportunities: 1. Internships; 2. Independent
Research (SCIR 297, Honors Modules)
8. GT STEP-sponsored/supported student outreach and enrichment events:
STEMXpress, professional skills workshop, pre-registration events, and STEM
speakers
9. Faculty Program for Active-Learning in STEM (PALS)

MC's outstanding science, engineering, and math faculty.
Partake in independent research, paid internships, and interdisciplinary
activities designed to pique and maintain interest in the STEM fields.
Receive assistance in preparing for transfer to four-year institutions.
Qualify for stipend awards of up to $300 during the first year, which
can be used for tuition credit and/or bookstore voucher for STEM
textbooks.
Who is eligible for the program?
Incoming and current MC students who plan on majoring in biology,
chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, or math are
encouraged to apply. Veterans and workforce development students
interested in pursuing a degree in STEM are strongly encouraged to
apply.
Acceptance of applicants are on a continual rolling basis. To be eligible
for the summer bridge program, new incoming students must submit
their application by July 1st.
