ENTRY FORM – Design Competition 2015 International Fiber Recycling Symposium OBJECTIVE: While we focus on environmental protection and energy conservation issues, there is an urgent need to address the large volume of fiber waste produced by households and fiber industries. With close collaboration among industries, government and academia, the Research Group of Fiber Recycling is working on the issues of recycling and reusing fiber waste. One of the major challenges is the difficulty of finding a need for these goods. With the goal of finding a need, we are inviting the public to submit ideas for products that use unwanted clothing and textiles. In the third competition, we are accepting submissions in two genres: 1)General art/design entries and 2) Works with a theme of “MAE-KA-KE” (aprons). “MAE-KA-KE”, or aprons(in Japanese), are also traditionally called “Mae-dar-e” and have been widely used as work gear by workers in agriculture and fishing, merchants and various craftsmen. In a traditional Japanese household, they were made through an efficient use of kimono remnants and old clothes. They also symbolized the pride of the workers, often containing the logos or names of the store or craftsman. Submission in the “MAE-KA-KE” category should be a representation of the rebirth of used clothing and old clothes for someone; for example, for family or friends, members of the community, a local shopkeeper or craftsman, or someone to whom to present as a gift. Please submit the work as a photo of a person working while wearing it. We would like your work to connect people and communities together through the use of old clothing in the “MAE-KA-KE” tradition. All fields are required unless otherwise noted. DEADLINE: February 28th, 2015 CONTACT INFORMATION *Complete contact information required for each designer if more than one designer submitting for one piece. Designer may submit one entry per genre.
