NEW APPLICANTS
New applicants interested in registering for ATCP courses, must submit their complete
application by the following dates in order to meet Graduate School deadlines:
NOTE: Minimum GPA requirement for program acceptance is a 2.75 cumulative GPA,

NOTE: All ATCP candidates must apply to Graduate School after receiving their ATCP
Acceptance Letter in order to enroll in graduate level courses.
It is required that prior to applying to the ATCP Program, applicants take a Pre Admission
Content Test (PACT) www.texes.ets.org under the following conditions:
 You must hold, or be scheduled to receive, a bachelor’s degree to register for a PACT.
 You may not be placed in a classroom as a teacher of record until you have received a
bachelor’s degree.
 You have never been admitted to a Texas approved EPP. (Educator Preparation Program)

Program Entry Requirements
State of Texas UTEP ATCP program entry requirements:
•
Passing PACT (Pre-admission Content Test) Scores.
•
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher education.
•
Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.75 or above on a four-point scale; or a
GPA 2.75 for the last 60 hours.
•
Required semester hours for the desired certification area with a GPA of 2.5 in
the content area.
•
THEA/TASP Scores. Writing/Essay-220, Math-230, Reading-230.
•
TOEFL Scores: Minimum 550. (For International Students).
•
Two Recommendation Rating Forms: One from an employer & one from an educator. (Forms
included in packet) These forms may be downloaded from our website.
& One Letter of Recommendation: from a character reference.

Application Checklist
Thank you for your interest in the UTEP Alternative Teacher Certification Program. This checklist is provided to assist you
in the completion of your application packet. If further assistance is needed, please call our office.
Please read all instructions carefully before submitting your application packet. The following documents are required by
the Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) and must be submitted in order to be recommended for teacher
certification by UTEP’s Alternative Teacher Certification Program.
Application packets must include this checklist and the following documents:
1. ____ Application: Signed and completed.
2._____Transcripts: Official college transcripts reflecting degree(s) awarded and date(s) conferred must be provided.
Non UTEP transcripts will only be accepted in a sealed envelope. Please request transcripts in advance.
Computer downloaded or faxed transcripts are unacceptable. Official transcripts must accompany your ATCP
application.
International Graduates: Must provide verification of degree equivalency to a United States Bachelor’s degree
through a credentialing agency to be evaluated and translated in English. Must also provide evidence of TOEFL
minimum scores of 550.
3._____Two Recommendation Rating Forms: One from an employer & one from an educator (forms included in
packet) and one Letter of Recommendation (from a character reference).
4._____THEA Exam (No exemptions) Writing/Essay-220, Math-230, Reading-230
5._____Passing PACT (Pre-Admission Content Test) scores/verification.
6._____Evaluation Fee: An initial non-refundable fee of $50 for three certification areas is required. Any additional
evaluations for any extra certification area are $25. Complete on-campus application packets are to be hand
carried to the ATCP office. Complete online application packets may be mailed to the ATCP office.
* Credit/Debit card, check or money order payable to UTEP ATCP only please. Cash will not be accepted.
A basic skills test will be required for potential Career and Technical Education (CTE) candidates who do not
hold a bachelor’s nor an associate’s degree. For a complete list of Texas Success Initiative (TSI) exemptions see
Texas Education Code, §51.3062(r) and Coordinating Board rules § 4.54.
Incomplete application packets will not be accepted. Please make copies of all original documents for your own records.
Copies of any documents submitted will not be provided. Once you submit your application, all official documents
become the property of UTEP and cannot be returned to you.

Foreign Credentials Information
EVALUATION & INTERPRETATION OF FOREIGN TRANSCRIPTS
Anyone applying for the UTEP/El Paso Area Alternative Certification Program who has attended and graduated from a
college or university in another country must provide verification of degree equivalency to a United States Bachelor’s
degree through a credentialing agency. In the event the transcripts are not in English, they must be translated.
The following information is necessary:
 Verification of the equivalency to a U.S. Bachelor’s degree with the cumulative grade point average indicated.
 Translation of all course titles.
 Grades attained for each individual course.
