STRATEGIC DIRECTION 2014 - 2017
MISSION
To provide effective leadership that promotes programs, policies, and performance designed
to increase higher education attainment by the people in the central valley.
VISION
For the Central Valley to be a place where higher education is valued and attained by an increasing percentage
of our population resulting in an enhanced quality of life in our region.
GOAL 1
1.1 Advocate for financial

specializations, job training
• Support existing and new programs that focus on student
completion/transfer activities

• Revision/edition of 3 to 5 career pathways resulting from state
and federal funding
• 5% increase in # of students completing specialized job training
programs
• 4% increase in the # of students completing 2 and 4 year degrees
• 3 to 5% increase in # of students enrolling in post-secondary
education
• 3 to 5% increase in # of HS graduates completing A-G
requirements
• 3 to 5% increase in students completing the FAFSA application
• A-G documentation from CA Dept. of Education

Develop new partnerships & leverage existing
relationships to support CVHEC goals
Activities:
• CVHEC Board members engage with K-12 superintendents in a
regional forum annually
• Coordinate opportunities to support K-12 with Common Core
and college assessment alignment
• Coordinate with employer stakeholders to align training with
employer needs
Outcome:
• Significant alignment/agreement on policies common core standards
• Significant alignment/agreement on college entrance assessment
• Increase of 5-10 academic/training programs better aligned
with employers’ needs
Measurement:
• Listing of positive policies resulting from discussions and annual
forum with K-12 superintendents
• Initiation of alignment discussions between K-12 and higher
education on assessment tests
• Listing of positive feedback from employers regarding better
training alignment to employer needs
