FOOD EXHIBITS
(These exhibits will be received between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
on Monday, June 30, 2014.)
1. All canned products, preserves, or pickles must be in clear glass, mason, tempered,
canning jars and properly labeled. Vegetables, fruits and juices must be in PINT or
QUART clear mason-canning jars. (No mayonnaise jars, etc., will receive awards.)
Jellies, jams, and preserves must be in clear standard pint jars, half-pint jars/jelly jars, or
four-ounce jelly jars.
When self-seal lids are used, rings should be on jars.
Any jar may be opened at the discretion of the judges. Judges will taste canned items.
All canned food should be properly sealed.
Only one entry can be made by any individual in each class.
All food items must be accompanied with the recipe printed or typed on a 3" x 5" card.
At check-in, please put your exhibitor number (not your name) on the recipe card.
All General Rules and Regulations apply, including those specific to canned and baked
goods.
Standards for Vegetables and Fruits:
Judging characteristics include natural fruit or vegetable color; syrup or liquid clear; tender
characteristic flavor. Item is well ripened but not overripe; graded and sorted size.

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITS

1. All General Rules and Regulations apply, including those specific to
Photography.
2. All photography (including youth photography) must be the work of the
exhibitor, including the composition determination, set up, and photographing.
3. Exhibits must have been made by exhibitor between July 2013 and date of 2014 Fair.
4. All photography entries must be mounted on an 11" X 14" sturdy board.
This can be mat board, poster board or cardboard. Loose photographs will not be
accepted. Photographs must be 11" X 14" or smaller.
5. NO frames and no glass. Pictures in frames and/or glass will not be accepted.
6. An individual may enter as many classes as they wish in the division, but can enter

CAKE DECORATING

Cake Decorating.
Each entry must be submitted on a sturdy base, not to exceed 36 inches. There is
no height restriction.

Foam cake shapes or real cakes may be used. In the Gingerbread Category the
primary structure must be made of real gingerbread (kits may be used for
gingerbread). If foam shapes are used, it must be possible to reproduce the item
using a real cake. Structural supports may be used.
Cake is to be covered and decorated with an edible material. Artificial materials
and decorations may be used for overall appearance but only decorations made
from food products will be judged.
No fountains, lights, candles or any item needing electricity from an outlet may be
used.
Entries will be judged on eye appeal, workmanship, technique, and degree of
difficulty, creativity, use of color, artistic design, skill and overall appearance.
Entrants must attach a 3”X5” printed card to the entry to list Food Product Mediums
used (buttercream, royal, fondant, gumpaste, pastilage, candy clay, gelatin,
chocolate, etc.)
Prizes are sponsored by Wilton.

COMMUNITY HEALTH CARE CENTERS EXHIBITS
Group projects by participants of nursing homes, retirement homes, assisted living, and
adult day care centers or other special health needs groups. (Individual made items may be
exhibited in any appropriate individual exhibitor class). This division is specifically for
projects that were made, grown, etc. by a group of health care center participants.
Exhibits must have been made by the group between July 2013 and date of 2014 Fair.

Occupational Therapy Showcase
The Salem Fair encourages participants in programs serving the disabled, nursing homes,
hospitals, and Occupational Therapy patients to exhibit and compete with each other in the
Occupational Therapy Showcase. Programs may include but are not limited to Special
Olympics, Goodwill, Tinker Mountain, Occupational Medicine, Therapeutic Recreation, or any
other organized occupational therapy class, program, or organization.
Exhibits must have been made between July 2013 and date of 2014 Fair.
