The event will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of U.S. Figure Skating as set forth in the current rulebook and the current Theatre On Ice guidelines, as well as any pertinent updates which have been posted on the U.S. Figure Skating website. The current guidelines for Theatre on Ice competition and team registration forms can be found at www.usfigureskating.org under Programs / Theatre on Ice link on the home page. This competition is open to all eligible, restricted, reinstated or readmitted persons as defined by the Eligibility Rules, and is a currently registered member of a U.S. Figure Skating member club, a collegiate club or an individual member in accordance with the current rulebook. Please refer to the current rulebook for non-U.S. Citizens. ELIGIBILITY All members of a Theatre on Ice team must be members of U.S. Figure Skating either through a member club or as an individual member of U.S. Figure Skating. In addition each team must be registered with U.S. Figure Skating as a Theatre on Ice team. Teams without a Theatre on Ice membership and/or who have members who are not U.S. Figure Skating members will not be permitted to compete in the U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned Theatre on Ice events. It is the responsibility of the team managers and coaches to check this board upon arrival and periodically during the competition for changes in the schedule and other important information. TEAM COMPETITION CHECK-IN TIME TEAMS SHOULD BE IN THE RINK AND CHECKED IN AT LEAST ONE HOUR PRIOR TO THEIR EVENT. 2 COMPETITION LOCATIONS AND DATES Competition Dates: June 18 – 21, 2015 Competition Rink: Hyannis Youth and Community Center (HYCC), 141 Basset Lane, Hyannis MA 02601, www.town.barnstable.ma.us/hycc/. The Kennedy Rink and the Butler Rink are 2 full size indoor rinks housed at HYCC. Each ice surface measures 200 x 85 with ample seating in both arenas. The facility also has a full service snack bar, 2 surface basketball gym with walking track, game room, computer room, and gift shop. The lower level of the facility has a separate lobby and 8 locker rooms. The Kennedy Rink and the Butler Rink will be used for competition events. For the safety of the competitors, ONLY “ALL ACCESS CREDENTIALS” will have admittance to the lower level (locker room area) at HYCC. HYCC is conveniently located within a mile of the Cape Cod Mall, and just 1 block from Main St where many specialty shops, restaurants, the Cape Cod Baseball League and John F. Kennedy Museums are located. HYCC is also within walking distance to Hyannis Harbor with fishing boats, harbor cruise boats and the Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard boat docks, as well as, the Kennedy Memorial, 3 Hyannis Beaches and delicious harbor side dining. Practice Rink: Tony Kent Arena (TKA), 8 South Gages Way, South Dennis, MA 02660 will be the location for all unofficial practices. It measures 200’ X 85’ with rounded corners. TKA is just off rte 6, at exit 9A, 12 miles from Hyannis. Development of the elements in a variety ways will be rewarded. Elimination of an element should reflect in the marks. THEME - Dance from 1901-2000. 20th Century dance forms such as Jazz and Hip-Hop that use percussive movements and sharp body isolations usually performed to percussive/rhythmic music. The theme should consistently show this style throughout the piece. CHOREOGRAPHIC PROCESS - Canon/Cannon: Repetition of a movement sequence by two or more skaters in which each skater enters into the movement sequence at a different time. Ex: #1“Row Row Row your boat…” #2 “Row Row Row your boat”. BODY MOVEMENT/GESTURE - Percussive: Sharp, fast explosive movements. 2015 FREE SKATE RULES The Free Skate performance should be original, and express a theme, emotion or story. Vocal music is allowed. Teams may use costumes, props and scenery to enhance their performance. (See competition section in this guidebook for more information on props and scenery) There is no limit to the number of jumps allowed in a program. However, jumps must have a meaning in relation to the theme and should not be gratuitous. Solo, pair, dance or synchronized elements also must have meaning within the theme. Skaters are permitted to leave the visible portion of the performance (i.e. such as behind a curtain or piece of scenery), but must remain on the ice surface itself during the entire performance. All participants must wear their skates on the ice at all times. No one can remain behind the scenery, curtain or props for the entire performance they must be an integral part of the performance Before the music is started the team must take a stationary position on the ice and a skater must give a hand signal. The team MUST provide a written description of the performance. The description should be no more than 50 words in length and MUST be provided to the competition local organizing committee in the local language. Coaches may not direct, prompt, or otherwise communicate with the skaters during the performance. If the tempo or quality of the music is deficient, no restart may be made if a team member fails to inform the referee within 30 seconds after the start. No restarts of the whole program are allowed, except for deficient music. No substitution of personnel will be permitted once the program has started. However, registered team alternates may be substituted if the referee stops the teams program due to injury or equipment problems. All scenery and props must be present on the ice during the 2 minute warm up and remain on the ice for the duration of the program. No scenery or props may be handed to a skater by coaches, parents or spectators during the performance. CROSSOVER RULE No crossovers are permitted in any division (meaning skaters may not participate on two different level teams during the same competition). 6 EVENTS & LEVELS OFFERED FOR COMPETITION When there are 18 or fewer entries in an event, qualifying rounds will not be held. Additional unofficial practice sessions will be available at the HYCC on June 16 and 17. 9 MUSIC Upon registration, teams are to turn in their competition CDs (Only standard format - no rerecordable CD-RW discs). Each CD must have only one program on it starting at beginning of the CD. CD’s must be clearly identified with: All teams must have a back-up CD available at rink side. CD’s must be picked up at Registration following the event. NO CD’S WILL BE MAILED. A separate CD must be brought to all practices. MEETINGS Please visit the LOC www.2015nationaltoi.com websites for notices of seminars or meetings. Before the event, the LOC website will serve as the Official Bulletin Board. During the competition, there will be an Official Bulletin Board located near the registration table which will contains all important information and updates. Check this often for up-dates and changes. Please remember all schedules are tentative until someone steps on the ice to skate. SCHEDULE The competition schedule and official practice ice will be posted on the U.S. Figure Skating website and the LOC website www.2015nationaltoi.com approximately 30 days from the close of entries. Do not assume days of competition and please note that the specific competition dates are tentative and may change based upon the final entry numbers following the close of entries. When making air reservations, please double check with the LOC competition chairs as to whether the referee has a draft schedule available. JUDGING INFORMATION JUDGING SYSTEM: The 6.0 judging system will be used for all events. All events will use the closed marking system. Only TOI certified judges will be used for these events. The event referee’s interpretation of the rules will be final. JUDGES LOCATION: The judges’ will be located on the top row of the arena directly behind the audience viewing stands. SEATING LOCATION: Seating is on two sides of the arena. Teams may orientate scenery and performance to the audience and judges accordingly. See attached arena diagram on page 20. 10 DRAW There will be no Open Draw. REGISTRATION The registration desk will open at 12:00 PM on Wednesday June 17, 2015, and will remain open throughout the competition and practice ice hours. The registration table will be clearly marked and located just inside the main entrance of The Hyannis Youth and Community Center. ONLY TEAM MANAGERS are to register the team. Music must be turned in and team rosters will be confirmed. The official bulletin board for all official notices will be in the lobby of HYCC. COACHES REGISTRATION Upon arrival, only 2 coaches per team may check in at the registration desk and must show proof of membership in U.S. Figure Skating and PSA, and CER Category B certified compliant in order to receive a credential. IF YOU ARE NOT REGISTERED WITH BOTH ASSOCIATIONS AND IN FULL COMPLIANCE, YOU WILL NOT BE GIVEN A CREDENTIAL FOR THE NATIONAL THEATRE ON ICE COMPETITION. NO EXCEPTIONS! ONLY 2 COACHES WILL BE ALLOWED DOWNSTAIRS IN THE COMPETITORS AREA AND AT RINK SIDE DURING THE COMPETITION. THEY MUST HAVE AN “ALL ACCESS CREDENTIAL” IN ORDER TO BE ALLOWED IN THESE AREAS. As a reminder, coaches are required to carry their U.S. Figure Skating “Coaches Registration Card” with them to all U.S. Figure Skating-sanctioned events. Evidence of CER compliance should also be carried as a precaution. This information should be treated similar to a driver's license; you may not always need to show it, but a coach must be able to present it upon request. **Make sure all coach’s names listed on entryeeze entry forms are spelled the same way they are on their U.S. Figure Skating and PSA CER coach compliance forms and coach registration materials. CREDENTIALS Competitors - All skaters and alternates listed on roster will receive “ALL ACCESS” credentials. Team Manager – 1 Team Manager per team will receive an “ALL ACCESS” credential Coach or Choreographer - 2 credentials per team will be issued “ALL ACCESS” credentials. Scenery Crew – 2 crew members per team will receive “SCENERY AREA” credentials for the Tent area at HYCC. Medals will be awarded to each team member for 1st through 4th place in each event. An award schedule will be post on the website shortly after the entry deadline. Final placement is determined by the combination of marks for the CE and FS in all divisions. SPECIAL CREATIVE AWARDS will also be presented. There will be no awards for exhibitions CRITIQUES There will be no critiques for the National competition ICE RINK SETUP CURTAIN: This year there will be no curtain used during the event. RINK ACCESS: The rink will be accessible by team members from the left access door, with exit being the right access door (left to the skaters exiting the ice surface). Scenery and Props will be available at the Scenery Entrance at the west end of the arena. LIGHTING: Standard rink lighting will be used for all events. No spotlights or special lighting will be permitted. Note: Rink Diagrams and Information (page 20) is purely for guidance and should not be considered as accurate. 12 LOCKER ROOMS & TEAM PICTURES Locker rooms are located on the bottom floor of the Rinks. Only persons with “all access credentials” will have access to the downstairs area for the Arena. Teams will be assigned a locker room for official practice ice and competition with specific times for entry and departure. Makeup and hair must be done prior to entering the locker room. Changing in the public rest room is not permitted. Pictures of each team will be taken after their Free Skate portion of the competition. A monitor volunteer will direct the teams to the picture location. Pictures will not be taken after the CE. SCENERY, PROPS AND COSTUMES All teams must be aware of U.S. Figure Skating 2014 TOI Guidelines and Rules. These can be found in the Resource Box on the Theatre on Ice page at http://www.usfigureskating.org/Programs.asp?id=49. SCENERY/PROPS STORAGE: Storage space under tents is available for purchase. The scenery will be sit on the ground under large tents at the rear of HYCC. The rental fee is $50.00 for 5 X 10 or $100.00 for 10 X 10 and must be purchased on Entryeeze by the entry deadline. SCENERY AND PROPS: Scenery and Props may be used in the Free Skate ONLY. The use of scenery and/or props are not mandatory. Scenery may not be more than 7 feet 6 inches in height (2.3 meters). All scenery will be portable and not require any mechanical means for transportation (i.e. forklift, etc) its movement will be the responsibility of the team. For insurance reasons no propulsion devices will be permitted. This includes items such as cannons as well as trampolines. Props may be placed on the ice at the designated prop door by the Team’s Prop Crew, skaters must pick up props from this position. Skaters may not step off the ice. 0.1 deduction will be taken All scenery must be placed on the ice by the Members of the Team’s Prop Crew. Members of the Team’s Prop Crew may NOT set foot on the ice, if this happens, a 0.1 deduction will be taken. Once the scenery is assembled, it must fit in either a 5 x10 sq ft area or a 10 x10 square ft. area in the designated storage area of the competition. Space depends on size purchased The use of smoke, fire, liquids, live animals or any substance that may harm the ice surface and/or skaters is not permitted Storage fees for PROPS will be in effect $50.00 (5X10) and $100.00 (10X10) will be charged. No mirrors or glass of any kind is allowed on the ice. Oversized scenery, TRAMPOLINES OR OTHER SUCH APPARATUS USED TO ASSIST SKATERS JUMPING INTO THE AIR IS NOT PERMITTED. If these are used, a 0.2 deduction will be taken Skaters will have two-minutes from the time the team is announced to set-up any scenery and get in their starting position. Skaters may use any or all of this two minute period to warm-up. A 0.1 deduction will be taken. The ice-referee will monitor the set-up of any scenery and report any violations of the time allotment to the event referee. A 0.1 deduction will be taken 13 All skaters must take the ice at the same time and be ready for the start of the 2 minute warmup/set-up and all skaters must remain on the ice for the duration of the program. Skaters may appear and disappear behind scenery or props, but may not leave the ice until the completion of the program. An announcement will be made after 1 minute has elapsed. Another announcement will be made when 30-seconds are remaining. At the 2 minute mark, an announcement is made that set up time is over. Set up must be complete and skaters must be in their starting position before the 2 minute announcement is made. A 0.1 deduction will be taken for every 10 seconds over the time limit. Scenery crew cannot step on the ice and skater cannot step off the ice. SCENERY BREAKDOWN: At the completion of the performance, and after the team has taken their bows, teams will be permitted two-minutes to remove all scenery. When removing the props from the ice the Skaters may not step off the ice. A 0.2 deduction will be taken. Members of the Team’s Prop Crew may NOT set foot on the ice. A 0.1 deduction will be taken. The ice referee will determine if all objects have been appropriately removed and will report any violation to the event referee. Failure to remove all objects to the satisfaction of the ice or event referee by the two-minute mark will result in a 0.1 deduction from each mark. There will be no timing announcements during the breakdown period. COSTUMES: Costumes must be in accordance with U.S. Figure Skating Rules and Guidelines for Theatre on Ice. Bobby-pins, feathers or anything that may fall to the ice and be hazardous to the skaters are not allowed. Hair and ornaments must be secure. A 0.1 deduction for any violations will be taken. CHANGING IN THE PUBLIC RESTROOMS IS NOT PERMITTED. All expenses incurred for scenery transportation or storage (prior to/after the competition date) are the responsibility of the Team. All scenery must be out of the rink within 1 hour after the teams free skate competition.
