Seoul
_-L-D
Seoul is the capital of South Korea. With a municipal population of over 10.5 million, and a metropolitan
population totaling over 20.5 million, Seoul is by far South Korea's largest city and one of East Asia's
financial and cultural epicenters. A fascinating blend of ancient traditions and cutting-edge digital technology,
home to endless street food vendors and vast nightlife districts, an extraordinarily high-pressure educational
system and serene Buddhist temples, a dynamic trend-setting youth culture and often crushing conformism,
extraordinary architecture and endless monotonous rows of grey apartment buildings, Seoul is a city filled
with stark contrasts, contradictions, and paradoxes.
Today, you will enjoy full day sightseeing (9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.):
After breakfast, visit the Gyeongbok Palace, the grandest
palace of all five palaces in Seoul. It’s in the middle of
downtown, but once you step inside, you hear nothing from
outside. The ancestral spirits of Joseon Dynasty still governs
this very ground where the Kings exercised their absolute power
for 6 centuries. Even though many treasures were looted by
Japanese during its reign of 36 years between 1910 and 1945,
the very spirit and structure of the grand palace remain intact,
welcoming you to its present.
Visit the National Folk Museum, the Folk Museum preserves
and exhibits the legacies of Korean culture and history. Behind
the outer gate, Gwanghwamun gate, there are several halls and
pavilions such as the Geunjeongjeon, the main hall, where inquiries and morning sessions were held.
Lunch will be served at a Bibimbap at Gogung (Korean Traditional Set Menu).
After lunch, visit Bukchon Hanok Village. This is a Korean traditional village with a long history located
between Gyeongbok Palace and Changdeok Palace. The village is composed of lots of alleys and Hanok
(traditional houses) that have been kept for over 600 years. ** walking tour for about an hour
* Optional 1: Rickshaw (1 hour) experience during at Bukchon Hanok Village (to be quoted separately).
You will breath in the history the Bukchon Village by rickshaw seeing several traditional Korean homes,
Hanok.
After weaving through the ancient alleys, drive to Insadong Art & Antique streets where the best antique
stores, Jogyesa- Temple, café and restaurants are congregated together.
Afterwards, visit Jogyesa Temple. Jogyesa is the chief temple of the
Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, becoming so in 1936.It thus plays a
leading role in the current state of Seon Buddhism in South Korea.
The temple was first established in 1395, at the dawn of the Joseon
Dynasty; the modern temple was founded in 1910 and initially called
"Hwanggaksa." The name was changed to "Taegosa" during the
period of Japanese rule, and then to the present name in 1954.
* Optional 2: Tea Ceremony (1 hour) at Jogyesa Temple during visit
the temple (to be quoted separately).

Seoul / Gyeongju

Gyeongju also Kyongju is in North Gyeongsang province, South Korea.
There has been human settlement at and around the site of the present-day town of Kyongju from the
prehistoric period. The Shilla clan became the rulers of the south-eastern part of the peninsula in 57 BCE.
They chose Kyongju as their capital. There followed a long period of internal struggles between rival
kingdoms. With the help of the Tang Dynasty in China, the Shilla Kingdom defeated its rivals in the 7th
century and established its rule over most of the peninsula; this remained unchallenged until the beginning of
the 10th century.
After breakfast, overland transfer to Gyeongju, the ancient capital of Shilla Dynasty.
* Seoul to Gyeongju is approximately 350 kilometers and it takes around 4 hours drive.
Lunch will be served at Korean local food (set menu).
After lunch, visit Yangdong Village; the largest
traditional village in Korea, before stepping into
Gyeongju.. It showcases many cultural heritages of
Joseon Dynasty against its beautiful natural
surroundings. The entire village has been
designated as a cultural heritage site by UNESCO.

1993. There are about 160 old houses along with
500 year old thatched roof cottages. These homes
have been excellently preserved in their original
state, offering a rare opportunity to view a variety of
unique Korean traditional houses.
