Here at The New Ewe, we are excited to introduce our new on-line store. It is filled with goodies such as fabrics, yarns, kits, books, patterns, and notions and includes a photo gallery of projects that are bound to inspire you created by you and our staff. The New Ewe News Sweet Charmers If you enjoy the use of jelly rolls, charm packs, and mini-charms, then consider joining us in a social afternoon devoted to the use of these wonderful products. The plan is to meet once a month for three to four hours of learning, sewing, and snacks. Teaching will take place on a shared basis, but is not a requirement to participate. Each afternoon will feature a project using our expanding line of pre-cuts along with an appropriate technique and sometimes a commercial pattern guided by a member of the group. The cost is $5.00. Participation will be on a first serve basis call to reserve your space, if you are ever unable to attend, please notify us as soon as possible so that someone else can have your spot. Join us Thursday, October 10th from 1:00-4:00 for our first “Jelly Roll Quilt” taught by Brenda. Shrunken Sweater Mittens The Gift of Warm Hands Wednesday, October 16th from 2:00-6:00 Please join Betty for a work–bee to re-purpose washed wool sweaters and fleece into mittens to be donated to local schools. Supplies needed are your sewing machine, pins, scissors, narrow to 1/2” elastic, wool sweaters, fleece, and enthusiasm. If you don’t have any of these fabrics, join us anyway with your sewing supplies and machine. No Fee as this is a charity project. Donations for wool sweaters and fleece are welcomed. Most classes fill up quickly, so if you are interested, please do it today, your payment is due at that time. A store credit will be given to anyone who gives a 24 hour or greater cancellation notice. Of course, if The New Ewe must cancel a class for lack of interest, you will receive a gift certificate towards another class. Come Knit with Jane: Daytime sessions: Tuesday afternoons: September 3rd, & October, 1st, & 15th from 2-4. Wednesday evening: September 11th, & October 9th & 23rd from 5:30-7:00. Jane will be in the shop to help you with basic knitting and any current project. Enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere while getting advice from the expert. No Fee. SOS Socks Class with Jane: Wednesday, September 11th from 3:00-5:00. If you have unfinished socks from previous classes, lost your place or can’t remember the next step, this class is for you. Jane will get you back on track to make a finished pair so dig those patterns and socks out of your bag. Class fee is $10.00 plus materials purchased at TNE. Wonderful Wallaby - Hooded Sweater: (three sessions) Tuesday, October 1st, 15th, & 29th from 11:00-1:00. The Wonderful Wallaby is a hooded sweater for all ages. This seamless sweater is knit from worsted weight yarn, dp and circular needles. The booklet contains sizes from 2 to super-size Adult. Class fee is $35.00 plus materials purchased at TNE. Light Flurries Scarf: Wednesday, October 9th from 2:00-4:00. Sample is made with “Vail” a baby alpaca and bamboo yarn. This soft and drapey lace scarf is worked in 2 halves. Two hanks of Vail will leave ample yarn to work an extra repeat on each half if a longer scarf is desired. Class fee is $12.00 plus materials purchased at TNE. Basic Socks on Straight Needles: Saturday, October 12th, 19th, & 26th from 10:30-12:30. If you’ve wanted to knit socks but don’t like the idea of all those needles, these are the socks for you. Knit back & forth on straight needles and then finished with a FLAT seam. Class fee $10.00 each session. The book for this class will be used again in other classes. Options for this 3 class project... 1- Sign up for all 3 sessions and Jane will walk you through all aspects of this sock from choosing the right yarn & needles, doing a stretchy cast-on a stretchy cast-on to weaving in the final yarn tail. 2- Sign up for sessions 2 & 3. You do the homework of casting on, doing the ribbing and the leg, ready to start the heel. 3- Sign up for sessions 3 only. You knit the sock on your own and Jane will walk you through the finishing using this unique seaming process. Family of Vests with Jane: (three sessions) Saturday, October 12th, 26th, & November 2nd from 1:30-3:00. This is a basic vest that can be made in children’s size 1-2 up to adult XL. Edges are knit on as you go, no need to pick up stitches, the center cable is optional. Class fee is $25.00 plus materials purchased at TNE. Infinity Scarf with Jane: Saturday, October 19th from 1:30-3:00. Design your own infinity scarf using a basic pattern that you will tweek to work with your chosen yarn. This scarf works well with any stitch pattern that looks good on both sides. Class fee is $12.00 plus materials purchased at TNE. Mug rugs are extra large drink coasters or smaller versions of placemats that are fun to create, a mini quilt, to hold a cup of tea or coffee with a treat. Join other fiber-enthusiasts to chat over a mug of tea or coffee and a snack while learning, via a demonstration, a new sewing technique and maybe win a prize, too! There is no charge to attend, but space is limited, so please RSVP. Second Rug Mug date will be: Saturday, October 5th from 10:30-11:30. Quilting Classes-Be sure to pick up the supply sheet. Rotary Cutting with Nancy: Wednesday, September 11th from 10:30-12:30. This class is filled with tips and time saving tricks for the seasoned quilter as well. Learn rotary cutter precautions, how to cut basic squares to angular shapes, understanding fabric grain lines and squaring up. There will be no sewing in this class and the necessary amount of fabric for each participant will be included in the class fee of $20.00. Beginner level. Leaf Pillow with Paper Piecing: Instructor Nancy. Wednesday, September 11th from 1:30-3:30. Calling all advance paper piecing aficionados! This leaf pillow is just in time to add a little fall color to your home. Class fee is $12.00 plus materials purchased at TNE. Advance Level. Thread Catcher Bag: Wednesday, September 18th from 2:00-4:00. Spend an enjoyable 2 hours learning to sew a handy gift for yourself or others with Ruth. Come see the delightful display using only 3 colors per bag. Class fee $12.50 Beginner level. T-Shirt Quilt Block: Saturday, September 21st from 10:30-11:30. If you have T-shirts and want to make them into a quilt for yourself, another person, or a gift, join Nancy as she discusses how to plan, construct and finish one. Bring one T-shirt and she will guide you through cutting and interfacing it. You will not be constructing a T-shirt, but will leave with ideas to make a quilt. Class fee is $10.00. Beginner Level. Exploding Pineapple Quilt with Nancy: Saturday, September 21st from 1:00-4:30. Uses a no-waste method to make the pineapple blocks with fussy cut centers. Learn how to work with bias edges, 45˚ angles and apply borders for a square quilt top. Class fee is $20.00 plus materials purchased at TNE. Intermediate to Advance level. Book required & prep work before class. Flip Flap Bag with Ruth: Wednesday, September 25th from 1:00-4:00. This bag makes a great use of fat quarters. It features 2 hidden pockets and easy inside pockets. Class fee $18.00 including the pattern. Advance Beginners. Any 12 will Do Runner: Saturday, October 5th from 1:00-4:00. Make a runner with Nancy featuring a Variable Star Block. Later you can use this pattern to showcase any 12” block you have made. Class fee $20.00 includes the pattern. Beginner level. Soft & Stable Placemats with Ruth: Monday, October 7th from 1:30-4:00. Placemats for everyday or special dinners; using a soft yet stable pre-cut form. The back wraps around to be sewn on the front for a finished edge. Class fee $15.00. All levels. Court House Steps Quilt: Wednesday, October 23rd from 1:00-4:30. Make a throw size quilt using the Court House Steps pattern. Learn to make the blocks in class and finish the top and quilt at home. The Cut Loose Patterns & tools make the process easy to follow and Ruth makes it fun. Class fee $20.00 includes the pattern. Advance Beginners level.
