The Board has 4 returning members and 6 new members. At our first meeting Lisa Mort-Putland, Executive Director of Volunteer Victoria, led us through an orientation to the Roles and responsibilities for a Board of a non-profit society. The topics ranged from legal duties to accountabilities to working as a team. The Board confirmed the membership of their six committees and an ad hoc committee. The committees are: Decorating and Events, Emergency Preparedness, Finance and Staffing, Kitchen, Marketing and Membership, Multicultural; the Ad hoc committee is Policy Manual Revision. If you have knowledge and skills to offer any of these committees, please advise any of the Executive or Carol. The Executive Committee are Bev Ruhl, Dale Oakes, Diana Kozinuk and Eleanor Ward. We need another member for each of Finance and Emergency. Please consider those committees in particular. We have started the popular Saturday breakfast again. This will be a fundraiser for the Centre thanks to the generosity of two of our Board members: Gillian Tucker and Murray Grant. And, not only that, but the food has been donated! Costs to the Centre will be minor - basics such as tea and coffee. The breakfasts will be a trial until the end of April. So come out and support this project. We do need another volunteer in the kitchen. Please let Reception know if you can assist even a little. I know we are all very stretched but even one day per month would help. Membership Membership is open to persons 18+ years. We join together to offer opportunities to enrich the lives of everyone. We offer an annual membership for only $50.00 and a monthly membership for $7.00 per person. MEMBERSHIP INCENTIVE: Invite a new annual member to the centre and get a $25 gift certificate for Centre activities. We also accept approved L.I.F.E applicants. Benefits of Membership Include: • voting rights at the Annual General Meeting • a voice in the programming of the Centre • a reduced fee for participation in Centre activities and events • rental of Centre facilities and services at NFP rate • free access to computer lab We acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia Thank you City of Victoria for your on-going support!
