Dear Chamber Members,
Well, it must be May as the calendar is jammed packed with all sorts
of activities and things to get done!
Be sure to review our calendar attached and online for upcoming
meetings and events. Note that our next Chamber members
meeting is this Monday, May 4 at noon at the Helen Gwin Commons.
If you have any items that you would like to get in front of your
Chamber, it would be a good time to catch us before we head into
our typical busy summer! Email [email protected] to
get on the agenda.
Also, a very important reminder! Mothers Day
is on Sunday May 10th, so here is a friendly
reminder to hug or call your Mother! Cards,
Flowers, or a homemade breakfast in bed is
always appreciated!
Along with completing your spring chores, be sure to stop by the
Saturday Market at the school on May 9th from 11 am - 3 pm. Rumor
has it, the kids will help wash a car or two for their fundraising efforts!
Lastly, it is that time of the year to start thinking about pulling out your
old softball glove and a ball to warm up for the ever famous and oh,
so competitive Cooper Landing Annual Softball Tournament! This is a
big fundraiser in support of Cooper Landing Emergency Services
and everyone’s participation, donations and volunteering is greatly
appreciated! Games start on May 28th and run thru June 6th. And
on that Saturday, make sure to check out our local rowers on the
river in the Cooper Landing Drift Boat Regatta, and join in their
celebratory barbeque before the start of the championship game!
Here’s to the start of the 2015 Summer Season!

Cooper Landing Library News
We have moved to a new schedule
until mid to late May.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 1-3
Thursday 12-4
Friday 10:30-3:30
Saturday 10-4
The Library is seeking someone willing to work a two hour shift on Thursday for the summer
(June through September). The time for this shift is not set so whoever is interested in taking
it on can set the time. The only stipulation is that the time of day is consistent through the
summer.
We are working to get the summer hours established so we can let our summer visitors and
seasonal workers know when we'll be open. Our agreement with State Libraries requires us
to be open 21 hours a week so it is imperative that we find someone to fill this slot.
Please contact Katie at 599-1643 or come by the library on Saturday afternoon between 1-4
or call Virginia at 595-3094 or stop by on Friday morning from 10:30-3:30.

Summer Season Opening!
On Saturday, May 23 at noon the Cooper Landing
Museum opens for the summer season. We are
looking forward to the lovely Libbie Smith joining us in
her moveable food “wagon” for the opening and at
the monthly garage sales hosted by the most
gracious Kate Stevenson.
Call Mona Painter at 598-1042 or email her at [email protected] if you are interested in
volunteering at the museum during the summer. We meet the most interesting people!
A Trip Down Memory Lane
Remember this tee shirt we sold thirteen years ago as we
prepared to move the old store/post office down river
about 600 feet? The building was donated by Tel Alaska
and the move was accomplished quickly and efficiently
by Keith Freeman and Nick Vanderfhoff.
RAVEN AmeriCorps Update
Well another month is done and gone! Kristine
Route (Krissy) has been working diligently on planning a three day summer education event that
honors and celebrates wild places, animals, and
people. It will highlight environmental advocates—Aldo
Leopold and Edward Abbey. The event is planned for the week
of July 20th. The first day will be Wednesday July 22nd and will
feature a kid’s night about birding during the usual youth group
time. On Friday, July 24th a one-man performance, A Standard
of Change, will take place at Kenai Princess Lodge and will
showcase Aldo Leopold’s life.
On Saturday, July 25th two films will
be shown at the Community Hall. The evening will start with
David Steinke’s film, Green Fire, a historic look at Aldo Leopold’s life. Saturday’s main event will be the showing of the
film Wrenched on how Edward Abbey changed the course
of the Environmental Movement, directed by ML Lincoln.
This will be the first time Wrenched and A Standard of
Change will be shown in Alaska. In order to make this
event possible Kristine has partnered with the Northern
Susitna Institute in Talkeetna. So you can watch
A Standard of Change again by traveling to Talkeetna the following weekend. Thank
you to everyone who has helped to make this event come to life!
The Cooper Landing Youth Group has been working
diligently on creating their Public Service Announcement
for the upcoming film festival. They have been crafting the
theme and scenes throughout the month. The photo on the
right is a sneak peek into what they are up to. This summer
the youth group will continue on the same day and time.
Kristine attended a Project WILD workshop April 17th and
18th and is planning many fun activities for the summer.
Details will be provided soon.
Other dates to mark your calendar for are the 4th Annual
Salmon Cook-Off. The date has been set for August 14th this
year. Also, the Recycled Fashion Show and be rescheduled
for September 12th. Now is the time to get started thinking
about what you are going to cook and what you are going
wear!
