Termite barriers including Termimesh, Plasmite or similar protection barriers are being bridged by fences attached directly to the outside of dwellings, downpipes attached directly to dwelling and also water tanks abutting the dwelling. All these items listed breech Australian Standards, therefore voiding any termite warranty on the termite barrier. EXAMPLES OF COMPLIANCE This has quite serious implications for the home owner, if in any case termites infest the home with bridging problems. Cork Construction & Consultancy cannot pass any termite bridging in our building and pest reports as is does not adhere to the building code. This problem applies to any new homes under approximately 15 years of age. Good practice - downpipe allowing visual inspection Electrical and Telstra conduits are also creating possible bridging for termites. Fence bridging termite barrier Also, all finished ground levels around the perimeter of the dwelling are required to be a minimum of 75mm below the termite barrier. Visual gap between fixture and termite barrier Telstra conduit bridging termite barrier It is recommended the termite barrier to your home should be inspected every 12 months by the installer of the barrier to maintain product warranty.
