STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK Dear Creative, Kind, Thoughtful, Generous & Warm-­‐hearted Cornell Community, From the moment we arrived last Monday morning and saw our doors decorated so fantastically, to the bagels and coffee, an abundance of flowers, two days of healthy salads and pizza to Friday’s sweet treat’s day we were awed by your gifts of teacher appreciation. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you for treating us with love. What a hit the whole week was. A warm thank you to Christina Solomon and her band of many helpers! 1 CHILDREACH NEPAL Our voluntary collection continues for the victims of the Nepalese earthquake. We have chosen the charity organization Childreach Nepal www.childreachnp.org let’s join together to help the struggling Nepalese families. Our coin/bills collection box is located in the office and is awaiting your donation. Money will be collected through Monday, June 8th. Every penny can help, or any spare change you can donate. If you have any questions, please contact Furpa Lama at [email protected]. OUR LOST AND FOUND IS OVERFLOWING! Please take a moment to look at the lost and found in our main hallway and the “small item” lost and found located in the office. All items will be donated on the last day of school. 5th GRADE BAND NOTES: Sunday May 17th, is the band extravaganza in the Albany High School Gym. This is the yearend concert with the AMS Cobra Band. 5th Grade band students should meet in the AHS gym at 12:00 noon. Concert will begin at 1:00 pm. All family members welcome! Please wear white shirt, black pants. We will also have CUPCAKES for sale provided by the Albany High School Softball Team. BAREFOOT BOOKS Please visit the Barefoot Books table outside the multi-­‐use room the evening of our Open House. Barefoot Books offers beautifully illustrated heart opening stories with inspiring themes. Proceeds benefit the Cornell Library. FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION -­‐ 5TH GRADE: Our 5th grade students will be receiving Family Life Education instruction May 26-­‐29. If you were not able to attend the parent information night on May 6th, there are extra handouts in the Cornell office. Please look for the goldenrod “Ivy Chen Family Life” letter that went home today. If you do not want your child to receive this instruction, you need to complete the bottom of the letter and return it to your child’s teacher or school office before Friday, 5/22. Thank you! 2 MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR 2nd and 3rd GRADE SPRING SINGS! 3rd grade, Wednesday, May 27 2nd Grade, Wednesday, June 3 Your children have all been working very hard in music class each week and we want to share with you some of the music we have been learning! We hope you can attend our Spring Sing. Place: Cornell Multi-­‐Purpose Room Parents, when you arrive for the performance, please first sign-­‐in at the office and get a Visitor’s Pass. 2015 COYOTE RUN IS COMING SOON! Cornell is having its 2nd annual run-­‐a-­‐thon to promote fitness and raise needed funds for our PTA programs. The Coyote Run will take place during PE classes June 2-­‐6. Students will run for up to 15 minutes and earn pledges for each lap walked or run. Classes with the highest average number of laps run will earn a smoothie party. Last year's event was a huge success thanks to all the volunteer support. We will need volunteers to help count laps, donate orange slices, and cheer on our runners. Look out for flyers with the PE schedule and pledge forms coming home with your child this week. Extras will be available in the office. Look for more details in next week's Pinkie. Questions? Parents are encouraged to submit the required documents according to the alpha group schedule by last name. If you’re submitting your documents in person, please bring your documents to the District Office at 1051 Monroe Street (UC Village) Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Students with inter-­‐district permits must contact your district of residence to renew your permit for 2015-­‐16 school years. Documents can be submitted by email, fax or in-­‐person. EMAIL: 1. Yes, it's true. Cornell School's biggest party of the year is tomorrow!!! We hope to see your family at the Albany High School Gym at 5:00pm for this fun filled FUNdraiser. It's not too late to volunteer. We still have many shifts open and need your help. Please go to the volunteer spot website at http://vols.pt/QhAzPE to sign up for an hour or a few. The most urgent positions that need filling: Check-­‐In 3 Bleacher Monitors Selling Items in the Store We also need bake sale items and name brand sodas so if you like to bake or are going grocery shopping between now and then and can pick up some Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite or Hansen's soda or 16.9oz. Bottled water we will gladly accept your generous donation. Please drop off bake sale items (pre-­‐wrapped or bagged to be sold for $1 each) and soda donations at the Cornell School office by 3:30pm on Friday (tomorrow) or at the Albany High School Gym between 1-­‐5pm on Saturday. Even though the Dance-­‐O-­‐Rama is free to attend don't forget your checkbook, cash or credit cards-­‐ there are loads of toys, books, gifts and gift certificates for you to purchase in the Treasure Trove. 100% of all proceeds go to Cornell School PTA! BAKE SALE/HANSENS SODA DONATIONS: Like to bake? Please donate to the Dance-­‐O-­‐Rama bake sale. All items must be individually wrapped in plastic wrap or Baggies and will be sold for $1. If you're not a baker we could use donations of Hansen's sodas. Goodies can be dropped off at the Cornell office on Friday, May 15 until 3:30pm or on Saturday, May 16 from 1:00-­‐4:30pm at the Albany High Gym lobby (enter on Thousand Oaks). Next Wed, May 20th, we will be holding our last fundraiser of the year with Cafe Raj, Indian Restaurant located at 1158 Solano Ave. They will generously donate 20% of all transactions that day. No coupon or mention needed -­‐ all you have to do is dine in or take out. This is the first time they are participating in our fundraiser, so we would love to show them the Cornell spirit and give them a good turn out. Conveniently located, they are down the street from the school. Our stomachs will thank us for it! FUN, FREE, FAMILY-­‐FRIENDLY MUSIC EVENT AT MEMORIAL PARK MAY 19th 7:00PM The Albany community is invited to join the Albany High School bands and the Albany Community Foundation at their annual spring band concert in Memorial Park. On Tuesday, May 19, the AHS Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Orchestra, and Jazz Lab will perform a free outdoor concert starting at 7:00pm. Come early and enjoy a preconcert picnic dinner in the park with family and friends (there will be no food available for purchase). The Albany Community Foundation is proud to sponsor this special event by providing the organizational framework, publicity, and funding.
