for cornerstone of hope
An Unforgettable Evening
As we close on our 12th annual Gala, we remember
all that Cornerstone has achieved in the past few
years through the generosity of supporters. In just the last
five years, Cornerstone opened a second office in Columbus,
celebrated our 10-year anniversary, built Lisa’s Butterfly Treehouse
featured on Animal Planet’s “Treehouse Masters,” and established the
Christian Counseling Center providing counseling for challenges other than grief. Through it all, we have
embraced change and expanded our services to better meet the needs of our grieving families. At the Gala,
this was the first year Cornerstone used mobile bidding. Thanks to all of you, it was a tremendous success.
Attendees loved the ease of bidding from their phones on our nearly 200 auction items, raffles, and more. They
were able to spend more time at their tables conversing, connecting, and yes, even playfully competing against
each other. Even better, online bidding helped Cornerstone raise an extra $10,000 in auction revenue to support
grieving families!
At the heart of the event was the theme that Cornerstone helps save lives. In the two amazing stories that were
shared during the video presentation, Raelene Kampf and 7-year-old TaLeah Howze and her parents shared
their grief stories of sudden loss. Raelene lost her son, Dallas, to suicide at just 24-years-old, while TaLeah’s
older brother, Peter, was murdered. Both families shared that while desperately looking for help, they found the
compassion, comfort and the skills to live even after loss at Cornerstone of Hope. Their words were powerful
and validated Cornerstone’s core value of excellence by using only trained professionals as clinicians and
leading every one of our support groups. Both TaLeah and Raelene have benefited from Creative Art Therapy
programs, where they learned new ways to express their
grief through artistic outlets.

Annual Benefit Gala
Our 2015 Champion of Hope recipients, Cynthia and Allen
Haire, touched us with the presentation of a painting
of our son, Bobby. We are truly blessed to have such
compassionate ambassadors of Cornerstone. When the
Haires know of a friend or community member in need of
our services, they share information about our programs
to instill hope to those grieving the death of a loved one.
Their support of Cornerstone’s mission began in 2004 at
the inaugural “Home is Where the Heart Is” event, and has
continued to grow each and every year.

annual benefit gala
Allen is President of Enerco and Mr. Heater, a company he has worked for since the 1970’s and has owned
since 1982. Cynthia serves on our Board of Directors and concentrates her efforts on the Event Committee. In
fact, she will be hosting Cornerstone’s first annual Life Ball fundraiser, a black tie masquerade on Friday, Oct. 2
at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven (read more on Page 6).
We welcomed back mistress of ceremonies, Brooke Taylor, formerly of 95.5 The Fish Morning show joined
by the ever popular Jimmy Malone of WMJI Majic 105.7. Guest of honor Buster Douglas graciously signed
autographs and took pictures with his signature boxing pose to the delight of many of our attendees who
joined in with their own boxing poses. Football greats, Bernie Kosar and Coach Sam Rutigliano, local news
anchor, Denise Dufala, and many other local celebrities were in attendance.
This year’s event was another sell out event with nearly 700 guests of local companies and friends who
purchased tables to support our ministry. By the end of the night, Cornerstone raised $314,440 toward our
$1.2 million annual operating budget. Donations received prior to the night and from the Fund A Need at
the event totaled more than $87,500, and will be specifically used for Cornerstone of Hope’s Creative Art
Therapy programs, which benefit many grieving children, teens and families each year. This creative outlet
helps individuals express how they are feeling when they cannot find the right words. Cornerstone of Hope is
truly blessed. We hope you can join us next year at the Rockside Embassy Suites on Saturday, February 13,
2016 for our 13th Annual Benefit Gala!
If you would like to read more about our mistress of ceremonies, Brooke Taylor, you can connect with her
at The Sacred Sink: thesacredsink.com. You can also find out more about Jimmy Malone on his website:
jimmymalone.com. Cornerstone of Hope is still accepting donations for our Creative Art Therapy programs.

Night at the Races
On Saturday, March 7th Cornerstone of Hope hosted their 4th Annual A Night at the Races at Bridgewater Conference Center in
Powell. More than 150 guests enjoyed assorted food including a pulled pork and mashed potato bar. The signature cocktail “Smarty
Jones” was a hit, and delicious Girl Scout cookie themed cupcakes were generously provided by Katy Cullivan. Melanie Feeney, the
event chair, put together an amazing silent auction and purse auction with a record number of items. Amanda Troy gathered almost
twenty volunteers who graciously gave their time to make the night a success! Many of the 12 sponsors and 150 guests were new to
the event, which allowed us to share our mission with more of the Central Ohio community! Thank you to the many supporters who
donated auction items, purchased sponsorships, attended the event and named horses! We wouldn’t have been able to raise more
