JOB DESCRIPTION: PART-TIME REMEDIAL SUPPORT
This is a part-time position requiring the successful candidate to teach throughout the school (Junior and
Senior Primary Phases). Please note that preferential consideration will be given to candidates with:
 An appropriate university degree or professional qualification and registered with SACE

Excellent communication and organisational skills

IT skills (Teaching and administrative)

A genuine interest in, understanding of and concern for young boys and girls

The ability to work closely and co-operatively with colleagues

A proactive, dynamic and self-motivated approach to education

The ability to uphold the Christian ethos and values of the School

A recent and valid police clearance certificate

Relevant experience

 Dedication

Creativity – the ability to invent, make up games, worksheets, approaches required for the individual’s
needs

Deep understanding and love for children with difficulties

Self-driven

The ability to be flexible and adaptable to change, as needed

Interest in development and extension of knowledge
Teaching Responsibilities:
 Have appropriate training and experience in Remedial Education

Have a good knowledge and understanding of the CAPS document

An assessment knowledge of Mathematics and Reading is required

Inspire learning through innovative tasks; aspire to achieve academic excellence

Have good communication skills - children, parents, staff

Collaboration - be able to work with a multi-disciplinary team

Be willing to teach children from all grades

Have the ability to conduct and analyse tests for screening and diagnosis of difficulties involving all
areas e.g. visual and auditory perception; spelling methods, rules, comprehension skills

Have a good knowledge of study methods/skills/techniques and their application

Have the ability to develop, implement and monitor IEPs (Individual Education Programmes) for each
pupil

Use a computer/appropriate technology to enhance teaching and learning

Involve pupils in extension activities which build a love and greater appreciation for learning

Provide relevant and detailed written reports on all children taught
Other Responsibilities
 Attend, and contribute to, various weekly meetings

Participate in, and contribute to, staff development programmes

Attend, and become involved in, relevant conferences, cluster groups and workshops (personal,
professional development)

Facilitate parent / teacher meetings

Provide pastoral support to the children in your care and, where necessary, others at Cowan House

Participate in the normal operational duties of the school

Communicate openly with the various teachers and Heads of Department

Exhibit professional behaviour at all times

