HEAVY BABY CARE INSTRUCTIONS

HEAVY BABY CARE INSTRUCTIONS
You have chosen a handmade doll that is made with all natural and organic materials,
including hulled millet filling. This doll exudes a peaceful simplicity because of the care taken
in its creation and because of the materials of which it is made. It will require some extra
consideration with regard to its care and upkeep.
With regard to the clothing the baby doll wears, you can machine wash and dry the
velour, interlock or sherpa bunting. The sherpa bunting will lose a bit of its length, but this
has been allowed for in the design of the bunting. The sherpa will also “nap up” upon
machine washing, and become more textured, but, still amazingly soft and loveable –
cool/warm wash, cool and low dry in the dryer to prevent shrinkage. Velour washes and
dries well in warm settings.
With regard to the doll itself, you can spot clean it with a damp sponge. Avoid
getting the millet wet. The initial baking keeps the millet from sprouting if damp or wet. If
however it does get wet, you may carefully bake the doll in a very low (185 degrees) oven, on
a cookie sheet lined with a towel, until thoroughly dry. Do not leave the doll unattended
during this process. You may also use a dryer rack and dry it in the dryer until the millet is
thoroughly dry.
If the millet is soiled by something like urine or vomit, the millet will have to be
replaced, reheated and scented with a few drops of Lavender essential oil. Slit an opening in
the seam to drain out the millet in both the body and sleeves. Wash the doll in a luke warm
bath and mild soap. Rinse in a cool clear bath. Squeeze out the moisture in the hand and
head and blot with a dry towel. Air dry or dry on a rack on lo-heat in the dryer. Use ~4 cups
of prepared millet for a 16” Heavy Baby doll and ~3 cups for a Little Baby doll. Hand sew the
openings closed securely.
A potential challenge with the millet filled version of this doll is keeping moths and/or
mice at bay. The millet is baked and then treated with essential oils in order to prevent
potential problems and thus far no moth problems have been reported. If you have a Heavy
Baby in an institutional setting and have opted for millet filling, you may choose to store
Heavy Baby in a mouse proof container at night.
Heat 16” Heavy Baby doll in the microwave for 2 minutes (1 minute for Little Baby
doll) and place in bed with your little one for a good night’s sleep.
I hope Heavy Baby brings much comfort and joy.
