A self-taught designer, the California-born Patty Perreira honed her skills during
her 18-year tenure at Oliver Peoples. In addition to conceptualizing eyewear designs
for the label’s own eponymous line, Perreira served as the creative consultant on a
number of notable eyewear collection launches for esteemed ready-to-wear houses
including Prada, Miu Miu, Jil Sander, Helmut Lang, Paul Smith and Vera Wang. In
2006 Perreira departed Oliver Peoples, partnering with Bill Barton to launch
Barton Perreira, a line of luxury sunglasses and opticals for both men and women.
Handmade by skilled artisans in Japan, each piece bears one of the many technologically
advanced signatures developed by Perreira such as foil transfer prints, carbon fiber
inlays and richly pigmented enamel. Drawing from a wide range of aesthetic
materials—from art deco jewelry to mid-century furniture and iconic automotive
designs—Perreira places emphasis on timelessness and continuity of form. Likewise,
unique textures and saturated hues borrowed from nature occupy the focal point
during her design process. The result is a series of wholly enduring designs—both in
their structure and refined aesthetic—that are instantly recognizable thanks to their
distinctive finishings and carefully balanced, streamlined silhouettes. Barneys New
York, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Jeffrey, Fred Segal and Saks Fifth Avenue
picked up the debut collection of Barton Perreira and the line is now carried in 38
states and 30 countries. In addition, Perreira has collaborated with several prestigious retailers on capsule collections: with Barney’s she recreated director Albert Maysles iconic frames and more recently, Perreira has teamed up with Opening
Ceremony to design a second capsule of sunglasses for actress and fashion icon,
Chloë Sevigny. (Sevigny isn’t the only discriminating tastemaker to appreciate Perreira’s sensibility: Angelina Jolie, Rachel Zoe, Heidi Klum, Jessica Biel and Orlando
Bloom have all worn her recognizable pieces.) In 2008, shortly after launching her
label, Perreira received the Optical Women’s Institution Most Influential Women /
Innovator Award. In 2011, Perreira was inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America, a prestigous league of designers celebrated for their influence on
American Fashion. Today, the designer lives and works in Venice, California.
Bill Barton has been at the center of a number of industry defining moments
over the last twenty years. As president of Oliver Peoples (2002 -2006) Barton
was instrumental in building the company and taking it from a 13 million dollar company to a 43 million dollar company. Barton was an integral part in the
growth of Optical Shop of Aspen, having been with OSA since 1984; he launched
their wholesale division in 1988. Barton held the position of President of OSA
from 1990 to 2001. Bill Barton brings his boundless knowledge of the luxury
eyewear market to his shared namesake brand.

All of our plastic frames have titanium “core-wiring” in the temples.
Just like clothing is tailored to fit, we believe that each frame
should fit perfectly to the wearer’s face. This skeletal foundation allows each frame to be custom adjusted and keep its unique
form.
POLISH.
The plastic that we use is called “zyl,” short for zylonite. The qualities of zyl make it the best resin based polymer plastic material
for luxury eyewear. It is lightweight, durable & maintains a deep
gloss. All of our zyl is tumbled for days and then hand polished
twice by Japanese craftsmen in order to create a seamless,
high-polish and smooth material.
VISION
All of our lenses are 100% UV Protection. We use CR-39, which
is the same material that opticians use. We also offer styles with
mineral glass lenses. Mineral glass offers the best visual clarity
and is a more scratch resistant material.
Some of our styles come with POLARIZED lenses. All the frames
that are polarized are marked on the inside of the temples.
CLOISONNÉ
Patty commissioned our Japanese artists to create beautiful detailing on the
YADIELL & JET-SETTER sunglasses.
Cloisonné is an ancient technique that uses multiple steps in the enamel process.
Each sunglass is masked by hand to conceal specific sections so that the focus is on
the frame front for cloisonné application. Then each frame front has the colored
cloisonné applied by hand and then it is completed with a top coat for a high-gloss
finish.

ENAMEL
The enameling process in styles such as the Valerie and Swinger is a technique
used since ancient times. The process is all done by hand to create the most
beautiful and precise finishing.
GIOVANNI RIBISI
The Giovanni sunglass has a classically timeless feel. The frame’s zyl embodies
sophistication with its eloquent contours and bevels, creating a unique texture to
the front surface of the frame. The Ribisi frame is more retro-inspired and made
of hand-crafted Japanese zyl with vintage mineral glass lenses. The color palette
consists of classic tortoise and Havana colors, as well as black and champagne.
“When Barton Perreira approached me about designing these frames, it was
something I jumped on,” Ribisi said. “Sunglasses are intimate, especially to one’s
individual identity because they sit on the face. It was challenging and I learned a
lot, but it was an honor to work with the Barton Perreira team and a company that
strives to create excellent product.” “Giovanni has a very clear understanding of
design and like myself, he is very much into the details,” said Perreira. “I believe it
shows in the sunglass designs we collaborated on. He presented full scale 3-D
renderings of the frames, which he created himself. Working with him
was a delight.”

Deep saturated jewel tone acetates are the new way to bring color into your eyewear
wardrobe. New colors include, Wailing Sol, a rich crimson red and Jamaican Rum
Cream, a deliciously tawny brown laminated onto a cream color acetate.
Changing texture by creating a matte finish to the frames has also been widely
introduced into the Barton Perreira collection. Existing colors such as Heroine Chic and
Havana have been “sandblasted” to create a more subdued, edgy aesthetic. New colors
such as Matte Horn and Matte Midnight add variety to the matte color mix.
Color isn’t just exclusive to the beautiful japanese acetates that Patty discovers. Patty
has collaborated with a Japanese lens company to create a palette of unique, rich
colored lenses. A bright blue, mirroring the neon turquoises that the corals create on the
surface of the blue ocean is the lens named Caribbean Dream. The Sunset Serenade
color starts as an earthy green and fades into an orange haze. Lover’s Rock is a sultry
amethyst hue that graduates into a dusky grey.

antiquated ornamental designs that are hand-engraved onto styles such as the
Mitchell, Cruisaire & Hughes and Burroughs.

When BAND OF OUTSIDERS designer, Scott Sternberg needed
sunglasses to style his runway show for Pitti Uomo Italy, he called our friends
at Silver Lining in New York and they referred him to Barton Perreira.
TOP RANKIN
While it’s been over 30 years since the untimely passing of Marley, his influence on culture
remains unparalleled, and his effects can be felt in everything from music to fashion. Marley’s
personal style was always simple, never flamboyant, almost utilitarian. This classic military aviator frame coined the “Top Rankin” is a Limited Edition, with only 500 being produced.
Each frame is handcrafted in Japan of the finest materials available. This masterfully contoured
metal frame is hand detailed with finishing that includes a Tuff Gong logo plaque embedded at
the temples end. Utilizing new “breath logo” lens technology, when you breathe on the lenses
an image of Marley will appear in a star. The frame comes in a custom-designed case and has an
anti-reflection cleaning cloth with the “Lion of Judah” encrusted upon it.

“To lend a sense of occasion and drama to his Band of Outsiders runway
show, the centerpiece to Pitti Uomo’s broad panoply of male style offerings,
and officially the first show of the Spring 2012 season, designer Scott Sternberg chose to show in the austere skyscraper-like setting of the Manifattura Tabacchi, a fascist era modernist complex on the outskirts of this historic town. The mood was urban and distinctly American, with an homage
throughout to Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story.”
