Burns School of Real Estate & Construction Management-RECM Dr. Mueller is teaching investment, development and real estate capital markets (REIT & CMBS) courses. He chairs the school’s Appointment, Promotion & Tenure (APT) committee & is a member of Daniels College APT committee. The real estate program started in 1938 and offers undergraduate (BS) and graduate (MS & MBA) degrees in real estate and construction management (RECM), as well as an executive MS degree. Mueller's research experience includes: public and private market investment strategies, real estate market cycle analysis, real estate securities analysis (REITs), real estate capital markets, portfolio, investment and diversification analysis. In addition, he has performed specific macro- and micro-economic level analyses, both nationally and internationally, on the office, industrial, apartment, retail, hotel, and senior housing REIT sectors. He has published 95 articles including: 33 articles on investment strategy & portfolio management, 23 articles on REITS and 14 articles on real estate cycles. He has also published his quarterly Real Estate Market Cycle research report since 1992. Dr. Mueller was Co-Editor of the Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management 2000-2014. He received Richard Radcliff Award for Groundbreaking Research in Real Estate Market Cycles by The American Real Estate Society in 2010, the Graaskamp Award for Research Leadership from the American Real Estate Society in 2004 and the Graaskamp Award for Research Excellence from the Pension Real Estate Association in 2001. He has published 95 articles that have appeared in top academic and industry publications such as: The Journal of Real Estate Research, The Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management, Real Estate Finance, Institutional Real Estate Securities, Real Estate Review, Urban Land, and has won five national awards for some of his articles. He is also a member of the editorial board of a number of major real estate industry publications, including: the Journal of Real Estate Research, Real Estate Portfolio, the Real Estate Capital Markets Report, Institutional Real Estate Securities, The Journal of Applied Real Property Analysis, PREA Digest, and the Journal of Real Estate Literature. In addition, he has been a contributing editor to Real Estate Finance, Forecast Magazine, and The Handbook of Real Estate Portfolio Management. He is a frequent presenter of real estate research at national and international conferences on topics ranging from market cycle analysis, to portfolio strategies, to investment analysis and real estate securities analysis. Prior to Denver University and Dividend Capital, Mueller was a professor at Johns Hopkins University and Colorado State University (endowed chair holder). He has held top research positions at Legg Mason (head of REIT research group), Price Waterhouse, ABKB/LaSalle Investment Management, and Prudential Real Estate Investors. He was also a developer/builder in New England.
