High School Girls Soccer Coach
Reports to: Athletic Director
Position Summary:
Interscholastic sports at Chimacum School District form part of a diverse extracurricular activities program.
Athletics will be a positive experience when the student athlete recognizes the importance of embracing a
lifestyle dedicated to establishing and maintaining integrity and self-discipline. The athletic department is
dedicated to interscholastic athletics as a vital component of a comprehensive education of Chimacum
Schools. The sound development of the physical capacities of youth complements and enhances the
intellectual, spiritual, emotional and social development of every young man and woman. This position is
under the supervision of the athletic director and building administrator.
Supervision and Controls over the Work:
The employee works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general
supervision of a designated school administrator. The employee’s work is governed, controlled, and
evaluated by acceptable professional practice, school and district policies and regulations, provisions of
Washington Administrative Code and Revised Code of Washington, direction of the supervisor, and
performance standards and expectations as set forth in the collective bargaining agreement.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1.
Successfully organize, manage, and coordinate the sports program for related sport.
2.
Assure knowledge of the rules of the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association and the
district policies, and at all times abide by them.
3.
Develop fundamental skills and an understanding of the rules in student athletics; instill a sense of
self-esteem in winning and dignity in losing.
4.
Organize practice schedules to ensure the best use of time, facilities, and staff.
5.
Attend and coach participants at all regular season, pre-and post-season games.
6.
Articulate and execute the philosophy of the athletic program that outlines the academic
expectations, discipline, commitment, athletic performance, sportsmanship and citizenship
expectations of the student-athlete. Apply necessary discipline in a fair, firm, and positive manner.
Maintain a safe environment for participants and utilize appropriate training methods to minimize
injury. Take appropriate safety precautions during practices and games.

Continually evaluate program for sources of improvement.

Be a positive visible role model in the community.
10.
Manage the care, maintenance, and procurement of all sports equipment, supplies and uniforms.
Complete annual inventory, issue and check out equipment, mark equipment for identification and
store equipment at the end of each season. Request purchase of needed equipment and supplies for
following season. Recommend improvements to facilities as necessary and appropriate.

Attend school, district and league meetings as scheduled; consult with the Athletic Director on
issues when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
1.
Evidence of effective work with students and evidence of ability to work and relate positively and
effectively with staff and students.
2.
Minimum three years of previous successful coaching experience, as either a head coach or
assistant coach for the related sport.
3.
Demonstrated skill, program development and evaluation in specific sport.
4.
Thorough knowledge and skill in fundamental techniques and strategies.
5.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with coaching staff.
6.
Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead young adults.
7.
Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills.
8.
Ability to communicate positively and effectively with players, coaches, administrators, parents,
media and the community.
9.
Demonstrated ability to instruct student-athletes in skills of the sport and to help them develop a
sense of life-long values of goal-setting, commitment to task, and the virtues of good sportsmanship
in the face of victory or defeat.
10.
Possess current First Aid and CPR card.

and speak, and be visually observant of classroom behavior and learning activities.
The employee may occasionally lift, restrain, or move up to 100 pounds – most typically when required to
intervene in student safety issues.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually
moderate, or consistent with the subject being taught, but can be abnormally loud on occasion.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions
and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic
or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual
could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The
employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.
The employee may be required to travel on school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting
students.
