Why? Because, according to South Korean business culture, it represents the innovative technology created by Kia and reflects Dicksons’ outstanding performance as UK Dealer of the Year. The award, a scale model of a Korean turtle ship known as a Geobukseon, was handed over to Dicksons’ chairman Alistair Scrimgeour by Kia UK business development director Simon Hetherington. The Kia team from Dicksons of Inverness fought off a challenge from 1,500 outlets to be chosen as one of the top 10 European franchises, in addition to being the best Kia dealership in Britain. Mr Scrimgeour told motorsnorth: “I was absolutely delighted for everyone in the Kia team here and have gone round each and every one of them personally, thanking them for their hard work which brought this incredible award to the Highlands.” The South Korean car manufacturer’s Platinum Dealership accolade was awarded to the Inverness retailer following a review of stringent criteria based on new car sales, customer satisfaction and overall dealer excellence. Only three out of 170 UK dealers were nominated for the European round of the Platinum Awards, and none of the other two English-based outlets made the cut for the top 10 rankings. The award reflects credit on every member of the Dicksons Kia set-up including the after-sales team, service manager Ian Mackenzie, sales manager Mark Murray, and sales executives Innes Lee and Frazer Cameron. The dealership sold 380 new Kia cars in 12 months, almost a decade after taking on Kia. “It’s been incredibly successful for us,” Mr Scrimgeour said. “Kia’s products are well-liked by our customers, and their reliability and features are just what many people want.” In addition to its new sales in 2013, Dicksons sold more than 180 used Kias as part of the group’s overall annual sales total for new and used cars of 1,540 vehicles. Dicksons has a long track record in the north, having been established as Dicksons of Forres in 1961 and moving into Inverness in 1992. Today it is main dealers for Kia, Nissan and Suzuki from premises at Carse Industrial Estate in Inverness, and operates a major car repair and bodyshop centre along with a servicing facility at St Catherines Road in Forres.
