Studying journalism or media arts? Interested in arts and culture reporting? Apply to become a Student Reporter at the 2015 National Congress on Culture in Edmonton, Alberta on May 7-8, 2015. During the two-day National Congress, you will have the opportunity to meet arts and cultural leaders, policy makers, community organizers, artists and cultural practitioners from across Canada. Have your ear to the ground on national conversations and cover current trends in the Canadian arts and culture sector. Mentorship: Take part in an exclusive conversation with Marci Ien, co-host of CTV’s CANADA AM and one of Canada’s most recognized news personalities. Find out what it takes to be a successful journalist in today’s media landscape. Media Tour: Get behind-the-scenes of the CTV Edmonton newsroom and see how the daily news is produced. Event Reporting: Cover reporting assignments on each day of the two-day National Congress on Culture held on May 7-8, 2015 in Edmonton, Alberta. Become part of on-site media team and publish at least one piece each day on culture365, Canada’s leading culture blog. Digital Storytelling: Produce a digital story based on your experience, a session/subject, or someone who inspired you at the Congress. Use a combination of text, audio, photos and/or video to tell and produce your story within two weeks after the Congress. Story Meetings & Briefing Sessions: Meet with Culture Days’ Communications Manager & Content Producer before, during and after the internship for story brainstorming sessions, assignments and practical tips, tools and guidelines for a successful internship. Application deadline: April 3, 2015. Please submit your CV and a maximum one-page letter expressing why you would like to be selected as a participant in the Culture Days Student Reporter & Media Internship. Include 3–4 samples of your work (include writing and digital media samples (audio, video, social media, etc.). ADDITIONAL BENEFITS Selected interns will receive an all access Media Pass to the National Congress, meals, and a ticket to the Annual Awards Dinner. Successful interns will also be invited to join the national team of Community Reporters covering Culture Days activities in September 2015. ELIGIBILITY You are eligible to participate if you are: • Between the ages of 19 and 24 • Enrolled in a journalism, media or creative arts program OR are a demonstrated self-taught journalist • An aspiring writer, videographer, photojournalist, audio broadcaster or multimedia journalist (must have own recording equipment and editing software) • Available to attend the two-day Congress in Edmonton on May 7-8, 2015 • Available to participate in two pre-Congress briefing sessions (dates TBC) • Available to participate in a post-Congress briefing session after all assigned pieces have been published (date TBC) • Social media savvy* (are active on social media) Please submit application by e-mail to: [email protected] Please write “National Congress on Culture Student Internship” in the subject line.
