COOPERATIVE EXTENSION SERVICE NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY The Curry County 4-H Times April 2015 COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURAL, CONSUMER AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES Curry County Extension Office 818 Main St. Clovis, NM 88101 (575)763-6505 fax: (575)762-7876 You can never miss when spring hits New Mexico. The flowers popping up, trees budding, and there aren’t too many days when the wind (and dirt!) doesn’t blow! Here at the Extension office we are bombarded with flyers, emails, and phone calls about events that we pass on to you. It is also the time to start gearing up for judging contests, fairs, and soon it will be time to get your record books done!! First, we have the steer and beef heifer tagging scheduled for Thursday April 16 th at Clovis Livestock Auction which is located at 504 S. Hull. It is due to start at 4:30pm and we will run until 7:30pm. We will be tagging any steers and/or beef heifers going to both county and state fairs. We are also going to have the New Mexico Livestock Board there to write hauling papers so please bring your bill of sale and any other important paperwork with you. It is very important that you have your animals there! If you cannot make it on Thursday, there is another tagging scheduled for Friday April 17th from 8am to 10am also at Clovis Livestock Auction. You will not be able to show at any of the fairs if you do not have your animals tagged. We have tentatively scheduled tagging dates in June for all lambs, goats, pigs and dairy heifers. As those dates are confirmed, we will pass that information along to you. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call us here at the office. Judging season is just around the corner. We have included an interest sheet for you to fill out so we know what practices to schedule. You will also find a brief description of all the contests that are available. Look it over and decide what might interest you. If there is an interest, we will do it! If you need any extras, please come by the office or you can even make copies yourself. Don’t miss out on all the fun!! There is lots of information in this newsletter! Please take the time to read it over and don’t hesitate to call us if you have any questions! Spring is definitely here… See you down the road!
