You can never miss when spring hits New Mexico. The flowers popping up, trees budding, and there
aren’t too many days when the wind (and dirt!) doesn’t blow! Here at the Extension office we are
bombarded with flyers, emails, and phone calls about events that we pass on to you. It is also the time
to start gearing up for judging contests, fairs, and soon it will be time to get your record books done!!
First, we have the steer and beef heifer tagging scheduled for Thursday April 16 th at Clovis Livestock
Auction which is located at 504 S. Hull. It is due to start at 4:30pm and we will run until 7:30pm. We
will be tagging any steers and/or beef heifers going to both county and state fairs. We are also going to
have the New Mexico Livestock Board there to write hauling papers so please bring your bill of sale and
any other important paperwork with you. It is very important that you have your animals there! If you
cannot make it on Thursday, there is another tagging scheduled for Friday April 17th from 8am to 10am
also at Clovis Livestock Auction. You will not be able to show at any of the fairs if you do not have
your animals tagged. We have tentatively scheduled tagging dates in June for all lambs, goats, pigs and
dairy heifers. As those dates are confirmed, we will pass that information along to you. If you have any
questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call us here at the office.
Judging season is just around the corner. We have included an interest sheet for you to fill out so we
know what practices to schedule. You will also find a brief description of all the contests that are
available. Look it over and decide what might interest you. If there is an interest, we will do it! If you
need any extras, please come by the office or you can even make copies yourself. Don’t miss out on all
the fun!!
There is lots of information in this newsletter! Please take the time to read it over and don’t hesitate to
call us if you have any questions!
Spring is definitely here… See you down the road!

Curry County 4-H Membership Requirements
4-H is open to ages 9-19. A youth must have passed their 9th birthday, but not their
19th birthday prior to January 1st of the current 4-H year to be considered eligible
for membership. Curry County 4-H members must maintain an “Active
Membership” status prior to participation in 4-H Rodeo, County Contests, District
and State Conference, or Junior Divisions of the Curry County Fair. An “active”
member will be considered one who attends four (4) of more regularly scheduled
club meetings. Not more than two (2) meetings in any given month will count toward
the membership requirement. Meetings count during the 4-H year which is October
1st through September 30th. The intent of this rule is not to punish inactive members,
but rather to reward active members. Therefore, every effort should be made to
provide opportunities for members to obtain an “active” status. 4-H Council
Officers cannot miss over three (3) regular Council Meetings and retain that office.

changes. We are in partnership with Patriot
Outdoors and we are looking for great things to
come out of it! Right now, we are having rifle,
pistol, muzzleloader, and shotgun practices at
the facility. We are hoping to have all
disciplines practicing there by this fall. Look for
more details on this in the future!
