THANK YOU for participating in Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta™. We are excited to welcome you to the wonderful world of Giant Pumpkin growing! To get you started right, we will give you a ten day old giant pumpkin seedling and the fertilizer it likes best, and instructions for planting. In addition you can count on us to post on our web site the latest news from the Pumpkin Patch, as well as tips for growing a prize-winning pumpkin. You are in for a whole summer of happy gardening! Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta™ again will be held in October, over Columbus Day weekend. The weigh-offs will be held the weekend prior to Columbus Day in order to gather the pumpkins in Damariscotta. Please check the web site for the complete, printable, event schedule. It is a GIANT celebration of all the happiness giant pumpkins can bring, and all sorts of activities are planned. Here’s three ways YOU can help guarantee its success, simply by growing a pumpkin: 1. Bring your giant pumpkin to either the Volunteer-Grower Weigh-Off, OR the Official Great Pumpkin Commonwealth (GPC) $10,000 Total Purse Weigh-Off, at Pinkham’s Plantation to determine its official weight. Your pumpkin may become a regatta boat or an object of art on Main Street during Pumpkinfest! 2. Help us grow the funds needed to support Pumpkinfest by gathering Pumpkin Pledges for your own weighty pumpkin. Pledges can be by the pound (for example, a penny a pound) or a flat rate (minimum of $5, please). (Please remember that, should the pumpkin not reach the October weigh-off, those flat rate pledges still should be honored and collected.) The Pledge Sheet and instructions are included. Your efforts will enable us to continue to offer Pumpkinfest activities nearly-free to the entire community! 3. Help Pumpkinfest benefit the community in which we live. Pumpkin pledges should be collected immediately after the weigh-off and remitted to Treasurer, Damariscotta Pumpkinfest™, P.O. Box 1101, Damariscotta, ME 04543-1101. Pumpkinfest donates half of the pumpkin pledge proceeds to the non-profit organization of your choice! The rest supports pumpkinfest activities. Just let us know which organization you want to benefit from your pumpkin growing skills!
