Victorian Dementia Network: promoting better dementia practice
by health professionals
TERMS OF REFERENCE
1.
Purpose:
The purpose of the Victorian Dementia Network is to support better outcomes in dementia care. This is
achieved by providing an inclusive forum for those working across the dementia care continuum to share
information, enhance communication and promote better practice.
Objectives:

To provide a state wide forum to share about programs, approaches and practices which improve
the quality of dementia care;

To increase knowledge and awareness of the supports and resources available to people with
dementia, their carers' and supporters;

To promote the development of networks amongst health professionals committed to improving
dementia care.
Participation in the network:
Representation is open to (but not limited to) staff from the following areas of practice:

Aged Care Assessment Services (ACAS)

Cognitive, Dementia and Memory Services (CDAMS)

Aged Persons Mental Health Teams

Alzheimer’s Australia Victoria

Dementia Behaviour Management Advisory Service, Victoria (DBMAS)

Dementia /Cognition Nurses and Consultants, educators and academics

Health Services (public and private) including Acute and Sub-acute areas

Community Services including Package Providers

Residential Care Providers (public and private)

Carer and Respite Services including Commonwealth Respite and Care Centres, Carers Victoria

Cultural and Linguistically Diverse Community organisations

Victorian and Australian government representatives.

Facilitation
The Victorian Dementia Network will be co facilitated by Alzheimer’s Victoria (AAV) and Dementia
Behaviour Management Advisory Service Victoria (DBMAS). The network will be advertised on both the
AAV and DBMAS web sites. The “Host” organisation to be responsible for organisation of and publicising
of the event or forums.

Frequency of forums: Four per year.
5.
Participant Consultation: Each year there will be consultation with the participants and others about
future events and how the network can better achieve its objectives.
6.
Terms of Reference: reviewed annually or as required.
