THE
ON BAY
monthly
APRIL 2015
FROM THE PRESIDENT
NEIL E. LEACH
It’s an exciting time at your Club…..Easter and
Passover came on the same weekend which is
the second time this century…..and did it make
for a wonderful/busy weekend. We served
over 400 for Easter Brunch and Seder Dinner;
over 50 people participated in our Annual Easter Parade and Egg Hunt. Our annual visit from
the Easter Bunny was a huge success at the
new Deering Bay kids’ playground and park.
Our weather has been fantastic for golf and tennis. The course has become very playable and we are moving forward as fast as we can to get fresh water to the greens as we believe this may be part of the answer to our greens issue(s). We look
forward to the summer golf tournaments our Pro Staff is arranging for us. We also had a kids tennis event last weekend and will
have a golf event for all young golfers on Saturday, April 11. These
are great events for kids to learn the sport in a fun and encouraging way, even if they’ve never played before. Be sure to sign up.
We are gearing up for Summer Camp and this year we are offering two camps: our new and improved regular camp and
a special golf camp. Moms, Dads and Grandparents too
will want to check this out and get all the details. We have
limited space so don’t be disappointed….sign up today.
Our Executive Chef Luke and his staff are busy changing up the
menu for spring. Be sure to stop by and check it out. There
is no better place to eat than at your Club. If you haven’t
checked out Steakhouse Night, featuring Prime Rib….using
the finest cuts of meat prepared to your liking with all the trimmings. Now, if that’s not enough we have some of the best
live musical entertainment in town. Be sure and make reservations; we don’t want you to miss the nicest evenings possible.
DRESS CODE: Every Club has a dress code, of course. Many are much more strict
than ours. Our dress code could well be summed up in a few words: Smart Country Club Casual. Our dress code is one of the elements which contribute to the
special atmosphere we have. We have posted the dress code in our lobby. Please
remember that non-member guests must also abide by our dress code. If someone in your party is not appropriately dressed, he or she will politely be turned
away. So please take a moment, review our dress code, and enjoy the Club.
Please join our Board of Directors and Membership Committee in welcoming the
following Members:
Dr. Mike & Ivy De Cardenas
Alex & Vivien Perez
Jeffrey Rubinstein & Laurie Turner
Andrew & Shireen Sierra
Adam & AnneMarie Undorfer
We are busy getting competitive bids for many of the Clubs improvements which
I have discussed with you in previous monthly newsletters. In June I will give you
a complete detailed list of all the new improvements happening this year and
next.
I would like to thank our Long Range Planning Committee and its Chairman Dr.
Joe Zagorski as well as our Finance Committee and its Chairman Larry Woerner,
for all their valuable time and assistance in getting these programs in motion with
no increase in dues and/or assessments. Your Board and the entire staff are very
excited about all we have planned and we think you will be too.
Enjoy your Club…we have the most beautiful grounds and wildlife of any Club
anywhere. On behalf of your Board of Directors, we wish you all the best life has
to offer.
Neil E. Leach

Deering Bay Champ
A World Class Sailor in the Making
Giulio Zunino, son of members Francisco Zunino and Beatriz Muñoz, is 10 years
old. He attends Epiphany Catholic School and is in 4th grade. He has been sailing
Optis since he was 8. Since then, he has been traveling all over the U.S. competing
in different regattas.
Currently Giulio sails with Coral Reef Yacht Club in Coconut Grove. He will be part
of USODA National Team Trials, a regatta where the top 25% of all sailors in the
USA qualifies to and from that percentage only 11 sailors in his age group will be
participating, Giulio's category being the youngest. The winners will be part of the
U.S. national team.
His goal is to represent the US in competitions across Europe and South America.
