Thanks again to all Council members for their support and involvement of School
Council. It is a challenge to keep people informed and discuss the complex issues
involved in school policies, operations and accountability when we only meet for a
couple of hours twice a term. Council members give of their valuable time and
endeavour to assist the effective running of the school and grapple with a plethora
of information.
Please note that the Annual Report to the School Community is now available on the

Term 1 Conclusion
It has been a great term in OSHClub. Thank you to everyone for warmly welcoming the new
coordinator, Siân. We are looking forward to coming back for an exciting Term 2. Please note
that Preps will no longer be dropped off/picked up directly from their classroom as of the
beginning of Term 2. If children could try and remember to make their way directly to the
OSHClub room as soon as the bell goes it would be much appreciated.
Holiday Program – Fast Approaching
The flyer for the Deepdene Holiday Program is now available. You can find the flyer on the
OSHClub website or pick up a copy at Before and After School Care. The program will run from
Monday 30th March to Thursday 2nd April, and Tuesday 7th April to Friday 10th April. When
booking your child into Holiday Program, please take note of the excursion/incursion days as
they require an additional cost for the activities.
Holiday Program Times/Food
When attending Holiday Program days please note that the times are 7:30am-6:15pm and
breakfast is not provided. The children are also required to bring their own morning tea, lunch
and afternoon tea. Please avoid any nut products as we have a no nut policy We will do some
cooking each day as part of the activities.
Anaphylaxis and Asthma Policies/ Medical alerts
If your child requires Ventolin/ an inhaler for asthma even just for when they have a cold then
we still need to have their asthma puffer and certified asthma doctors plan at OSHClub (these
need to be up to date – as they expire annually). If your child suffers from Anaphylaxis and will
be attending OSHClub we require their Epipen as well as the Doctor’s action plan (we require
for this to be updated annually) These are legal requirements and if they do not have their plan/
puffer/Epipen and their enrolment indicates they should have these, then unfortunately they
cannot attend. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

SCHOOL NEWS
This term in the art room we have paid tribute to the 100-year
anniversary of the ANZAC landing in Gallipoli. To celebrate the spirit of the ‘ANZAC’, students have explore the historical and
cultural significance of ANZAC day. The Flanders poppy has been used as a symbol of sacrifice but also growth and regeneration.
The student’s artwork has created a colourful visual tribute to pay respect to all of those who have made sacrifices to help
create a culturally diverse and free Australia.
Level 3 & 4 Ink Block Printing
Level 3 and 4 students ‘carved’ their poppy design into a foam block. Red ink was then rolled onto the foam block, and a thin layer
of gold applied on top. To ensure a clean print, students used a ‘brayer’ to apply pressure to the back of their print before
peeling it off to reveal beautiful antique looking prints. Students then mounted their finished prints on a coloured piece of paper.
Paper Poppies (Lest we forget photo)
Foundation students made these beautiful 3 dimensional poppies using red textas, coffee filters and starch spray. Each student
made a small and large paper poppy, after applying the coloured the paper coffee filters were sprayed with starch and left to dry
while draped over a plastic cup. When both were dry and the paper had become stiff, the small poppy was glued inside the larger
poppy. To create the textured centre of the poppy students glued in a small length of fluffy wool.
Window Poppies
Level 5 students sketched a range of poppies in their art journal, some outstanding samples were chosen to be enlarged using the
photocopier. These large poppies were then recreated on the foyer and art room windows using special window markers and
window crayons.
Foundation Field of Poppies
Foundation students began these beautiful art works by creating a sky blue background. Using liquid watercolour students
dabbed the watercolour onto their paper using sponges being careful to leave some white spaces to represent clouds. Using a
mixture of red, orange and white paint they created their poppies by dipping a round sponge into the paint and printing it onto
their background. Black stamens were added to their poppies and long, wriggly stems completed their art works!
Level 3 & 4 Poppies
These beautiful creations were inspired by the work of Georgia O’Keeffe. Level 3 & 4 students began their artwork by creating
an outline for their poppy using a mixture of PVA glue and black paint. This was applied using a squeeze bottle. When the glue/
paint had dried, students added oil pastel and liquid
watercolour to create the strong warm, red tones.
