"I did a lot of research on the advantage of different
roofing materials and expected my house to be
cooler on a summer day with the steel roof and
insulation under it. However I was surprised when
a few weeks later it was 94º outside at 4:30 in the
afternoon and inside was a comfortable 72º. My
house is well insulated and always was about 12º
cooler than outside, but this made it another 10º
cooler than before. My garage is not insulated and
would get uncomfortably hot in the afternoon, but now
it is also comfortable in the afternoon. One report I
found online from the Lawrence Berkeley National
Laboratory, Environmental Energy Technologies
Division at http://eetd.lbl.gov/coolroof/how.htm
indicated that asphalt shingles can make your attic
temperature 72º to 90º hotter than the ambient air
temperature. This I believe is about 60º hotter than
the steel roof and the steel roof cools off right away
after the sun goes down. It doesn't retain the heat
like tile and asphalt roofs. I would recommend
SteelRock to anyone.
