students at private schools throughout the nation. Every year our graduates attend prestigious and highly acclaimed colleges and universities. Our students are pursued because of their dedication to their education, their desire to hone their talents, and their ability to work
well with both students and adults. This year’s Valedictorians are not only the top academic students at Desert Vista High School, they
are also members of clubs, athletic teams and partnerships outside of school. These students are respected by their peers and educators

Spring is Sign-up Time for Juniors
Spring is the time for our junior students to take the SAT or ACT tests. They can sign up for the SAT test at Collegeboard.com. Future test dates are May 2nd and June 6th and Desert Vista High School is a testing site. To sign up for the
ACT students need to go to actstudent.org. The Spring test date is June 5th and Corona del Sol High School in Tempe is a
testing site for the ACT. Registration must be done approximately a month before the test date.
The companies that proctor and score the SAT and ACT are being extremely serious about students having IDs on test days.
In the past if someone had forgotten an ID, they would allow a teacher to vouch for the student, however that is not the case
anymore. If a student doesn't have a photo ID, they will not be allowed to test. IDs that will be accepted are listed below:
o Driver’s license or state ID
o School ID
o Employer ID
o Passport
o Military ID
o Tribal ID
o Naturalization Card
Please contact your student's guidance counselor if you need assistance.

Library Policies
The Library will be open at 7:15 AM each day and close on regular school days at 4 pm.
The facility will close shortly after the final bell on early release days.
Usage during school hours will require a teacher-signed pass. No food or drink (with the
exception of water) is allowed in the Library or the computer labs. The Library will be
open during lunch time for students who need to work on school-related projects and assignments. Any other activities such as playing games or socializing must take place in other designated areas on campus that remain open during lunch time.
We will continue to adhere to the fire code capacity, and as such, students will be advised
that if they are not doing school-related work and/or we are at or nearly over capacity,
they will be asked to leave the Library to make room for students who are waiting to enter
to do school work. We thank everyone for their continued support and understanding.
Please contact Ms. Tomika Bethea if there are any questions about these policies.

Desert Vista is a closed campus. Do not call to request off campus passes for your children to leave for lunch. Students
will not be released during their lunch hour unless picked up by parents or legal guardians. Please come in and sign
the student out. Students are not to be picked up curbside.
Parents going out-of-town and leaving students in the care of a designated adult must provide the attendance office
with a notarized statement with the caretaker’s name and telephone numbers.
In our attempt to keep classroom interruptions to a minimum and student learning to a maximum, instruction time will not
be interrupted except in emergency situations. The front office staff will not be able to hold, take or deliver student items.
However, we do understand that a student may forget some items, therefore a parent/guardian may wait in the front office
until passing period whereby the front office staff will page the student. The parent will then be able to hand the items to his
or her child.
Change of Address
The Post Office will not forward school or district mail, so if you
move, you need to provide the Attendance Department with your
current SRP statement reflecting your new address. Thank you!

established to promote a positive
school environment. We want to provide the freedom for students to express themselves within the set of parameters listed below.

drug, alcohol or tobacco, sexual
activity, violence, disrespect
and/or bigotry towards any
group or person are not allowed.

safety, and general welfare of the
students, or which express obscenities, immodestly expose the chest,

secured tightly to ensure that undergarments are not exposed and
that pants are not dragging on the
ground.
Cut-offs, muscle tee’s, spiked jewelry and/or wallet chains are examples of clothing, attire or accessories which are not permitted to
be worn at school.
Shoes must be worn. House slippers or shoes with soles similar are
deemed unsafe and not school
appropriate.

worn in the classroom.
Pajamas are prohibited.
No bandanas or doo rags are
allowed at school or school activities.
On campus, the faculty, staff and administration have the responsibility to

administration retains the final discretion to determine that the garment or
accessory meets the dress code. Dress
code policies will be displayed on and
around campus.
Dress Code
policies are
displayed
around our
campus.
Cell Phone Policy
In order to meet our goals, we have modified our school cell phone usage policy. We must
minimize distractions if we are to maintain academic excellence. Cell phones will be prohibited during instruction time (unless directed by instructor) and “No Tech Zones”. No Tech
Zones include all restrooms, PE locker rooms, front office, and library (during instruction
time). Phones may be used before school, passing periods, during lunch, and after school only. Students caught using their phones during those unauthorized periods and zones will result
in the phone being confiscated by staff or security personnel. Phones will be available for parent pickup afterschool. If students do not follow school policies, they will be considered to be
insubordinate and appropriate discipline will result. Students are encouraged not to bring
iPods, mp3 players, laser pointers, headsets, cameras or video recorders, any game playing device, or any personal electronic or digital music devices on campus. Lost or stolen cell phones
or devices are the responsibility of the student. Bringing the item to school is at the students’
own risk for loss/theft. Desert Vista is not responsible for stolen or missing equipment
and it is strongly encouraged that they not be brought to campus.

Notes from Nurse Kennedy...
Medication Guidelines
As of January 1, 2010, the Desert Vista
Health Office will no longer be providing “stock” acetaminophen (Tylenol)
or Ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin).
Parents must provide the Health Office all such over-the-counter medications for their students’ use.
Desert Vista is a drug-free campus.
For the safety and health of all of our
students, all medications, including
Tylenol and Advil, must be kept in the
School Nurse’s Office. Students are
not allowed to carry medications with
them to school. Students requiring an
over-the-counter pain reliever during
the school day must have had their
parent or guardian deliver it to the
Health Office with a signed permission
slip, and the medications must be
administered by the School Nurse.
Parent/Guardian Consent Form
(download)
Please print and complete the form
before delivering it to the School
Nurse along with the referenced medication. Except in specific cases, the
school nurse will NOT distribute medications during the first or seventh
periods.
Immunization Information
Immunization update: Tdap pertussis/diptheria & tetanus and Meningitis are now required for all Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors, are due.
Meningitis will be required by most colleges. Please see Nurse Kennedy if you have any
questions.
Got Gym Shorts?
Nurse Kennedy has an ongoing need for extra sets of gym shorts for
use by students. If you have any extras around, please drop them off
at the Front Office for Nurse Kennedy.
Chicken Pox Season is Here
Remember, springtime is chicken pox season and if your child has not
yet had them or the vaccine, there is always a possibility that your
child may be exposed throughout the school day. Please be aware and
keep your child home, should they develop a fever of 100 or more, as
well as any blistery, type rash. Contact Nurse Kennedy if you have
any questions.

Parchment Transcript System
Attention all seniors, your final transcripts will be available after June 24, 2015 through Parchment. If you
have not done so please register and request them at that time through parchment.com. In an effort to move forward with our green initiative, TUHSD has implemented an electronic transcript system. Moving forward, DV will
not be printing and mailing transcripts. Seniors will be able to access their account and electronically send their
transcripts directly where they need them to go. Families may also access a history of student grades through
parent/vue and student/vue, if they need an unofficial transcript. The Parchment website also offers students college search information as well as an assessment of the student transcript in relationship to the colleges they would
like to attend. Students can also see how their chances of admission could differ if they were to improve their GPA
and/or SAT
score. If you have questions or need assistance please contact the help center link at www.parchment.com.

With a heavy heart, our Desert Vista family
said good-bye to our beloved Frank Matus.
Frank worked as a custodian at DVHS during the
day and was always very responsive to everyone's needs, always with a smile on his face.
May he rest in peace.
