Yamaha Premium Grand Pianos
S Series
CF Series
Handcrafted in a dedicated piano-building facility in
Kakegawa, Japan, each S Series piano is worked on by
master craftsmen who ensure the piano leaves the factory
performing at the highest possible standard.
For more than a century Yamaha has been building grand
pianos, continuously perfecting both skill and design in the
pursuit of musical excellence. During the nineteen years
following the launch of the acclaimed CFIIIS concert grand
piano, Yamaha combined traditional craftsmanship with hightech engineering to re-examine every element of the piano,
discovering how each design element affects the sound.
Possessing a lush tonal presence and a brilliant sound with
amazing depth, the S Series represents an answer to pianists’
desire for a grand piano capable of transforming their visions
into inspiring music. Created from specially selected timber,
an iron frame hand-cast to precise specifications in Yamaha’s
own foundry with the highest quality materials available,
the S4 and S6 are truly premium pianos.
Developed together with some of the greatest pianists
the world has ever seen, Yamaha’s CF Series represents the
pinnacle in the evolution of concert grand pianos.

275cm (9’) Concert Grand
A 19-Year Quest for Grand Piano Excellence
‘Beauty and Power’ – the concept behind Yamaha’s CF Series
of exquisitely handcrafted concert grand pianos, is imbued
in both the exceptional tonal qualities and the refined
appearance of the CFX concert grand piano.
The journey from concept to development, and then to fruition
began in 1991 when a team of Yamaha design engineers,
technicians and artisans set out to study every aspect of a piano.
The team analysed vibrations in the body, soundboard,
frame and strings, mapped out the vibration patterns of
the different harmonics of each note with CAD technology,
and used ultra-high-speed photography to see how piano
strings react when struck by hammers – along the way
learning all about how a piano’s tone is formed.
This knowledge was then incorporated into the design of
the CFX, giving it an extraordinary range of tonal expression
and a commanding tonal presence. Extensive testing by top
concert pianists in actual concert situations confirmed the
optimal specifications, and production of CFX began.
The CFX is a full-sized concert grand piano
with a wide palette of tonal colours, an
unparalleled depth of expressiveness and a
powerful bass.
Offering impeccable control that encourages
the performer to reach new levels of musical
expression, the handcrafted CFX is backed by
over a hundred years of high calibre concert
piano production, with extensive research
analysing what makes a truly great concert
grand piano.
Yamaha experts have spent countless hours
collaborating with world-class concert pianists,
testing, evaluating and evolving the CFX into
the instrument it is today – a piano that is
capable of gracing any stage in the world.
