Before retiring in 2013 Bill had been hoping to have an opportunity to teach new players – now it is your turn to join him in the pleasures of learning to play and make music. Bill recently moved to Cranbrook after retirement and is enjoying getting to know the city better. “I have always wanted to learn to play guitar but just didn’t know where to start and one on one lessons can get expensive and a bit intimidating. After only a few sessions, I felt comfortable enough to practice different chords on my own and knew I could learn to play as long as I kept up with the practicing. As the Cranbrook Farmer’s Market enters its seventh year of operation, the market season is growing! Due to the tremendous support from both vendors and market patrons alike, we have added another whole season of ‘locally made, baked and grown’ for 2015. In addition to our outdoor markets that are held every Saturday from the end of June until Thanksgiving, we have added a season of Indoor/Spring Markets on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the months from January to June. The idea for these indoor markets has been germinating for quite a while as a way to continue the markets that our patrons love on a more regular basis, while giving local area producers another opportunity to connect with their customers. The first of these markets have gone very well, and the Ktunaxa Gym is proving to be a great central location. Market shoppers can find everything from freshly harvested microgreens to frozen berries and beef, eggs, sourdough breads and baked goods, to body care products, wood carvings, jewelry and hand knit/ sewn clothing items. As these indoor markets become more established, local area growers can plan to have more available in future years, as they come up with creative ideas to either extend their growing seasons, find ways to cold store their produce, or turn them into ‘value added’ products ready for sale in the ‘off season’. Thank you to all of the market patrons who help the Cranbrook Farmer’s Market continue to grow. And for those of you who haven’t come down to see what the market is all about, make a plan one Saturday soon!
