Brian Ballard RUA
Born in Belfast, Brian Ballard trained at Belfast College of Art, and
later at the College of Art, Liverpool. He still lives in Belfast but spends
long periods of time living and working in his house on the remote
and rugged island of Inishfree off the coast of Donegal.
His contemporary approach to painting alternates between
figurative treatment of nudes, landscape and expressionistic still life,
all of which he practices in equal measure and intensity.
Brian has exhibited widely in Ireland and England ever since his
paintings were first hung in the Arts Council Gallery in 1967. His
work can be found in many collections such as The Ulster Museum,
U2, and the National Trust.

Michael Morris
Born in Dublin in 1979, Michael Morris is a self taught painter whose travels have helped in
honing a unique style that is individual and immediately recognizable. Following his own path, he
gained a clear perspective on what he wanted to create. His travels took him through France, Rome,
Venice and Spain, and while Ireland remains his main subject matter, his work has a vibrancy,
which seems to be suffused with both French flair and Mediterranean light. He has exhibited
widely throughout Ireland, including the Royal Ulster Academy Exhibition. It is little surprise that
his work has been received to critical acclaim, he is clearly an emerging artist of substance.

John Schwatschke
Born in Dublin in 1943, of an
Austrian father and Irish mother,
the family lived in Carlow for
over fifty years. He studied Art
and Architecture in Dublin and
Munich and originally made
his name as a portrait painter,
including
many
prominent
individuals: Ingrid Bergman,
Robert
Mitchum,
Harold
Robbins, the Duke of Edinburgh
and Eamon de Valera to name but
a few. Having worked in Saudi
Arabia, he kept an art studio in
Provence in the 1970’s, where
he was a neighbour of Picasso,
and Le Musee Schwatschke was
established, while his work was
promoted by noted Paris dealer
Iris Clert. He later moved his
studio to Santa Barbara, before
finally returning to Ireland.
Schwatschke is well known for
his caricatures, which as works of
art, are always intensely personal
and somehow universal.

BA in Fine Art, he has exhibited

Born in 1943, into an artistic family, Robert Egginton
is the nephew of Frank Egginton (1908 - 1990) and the
grandson of Wycliffe Egginton, R.I. (1875 - 1951). Robert’s

Jack Donovan
An important contemporary
artist, born in 1934, Jack
Donovan was Headmaster of
Limerick School of Art from
1962 to 1978, and included
John Shinnors among his
many former students. His
unusual subject matter and
strong bold use of colour
combine to produce striking
and unique work and it is no
surprise that he firmly established a reputation nationally
and internationally.

Markey Robinson
A primitive painter, a colourful character, a man of great complexity - these are all descriptions which
have been used to describe Markey Robinson over the years. Born in Belfast in 1918; Markey Robinson
is regarded as one of the great Northern Masters. In a sixty year career, Markey’s unique and vibrant
paintings fully demonstrate his genius for composition. His signature style and his range of themes
are readily identifiable - rural landscapes, women in shawls and sad-looking clowns. His work was
collected by Queen Elizabeth II and he is represented in many public and private collections around
the globe. Art Historian, Susan Stairs in her biography on Markey probably summed him up best
when she said of him, ‘there is a genius in our midst’.

Norah McGuinness HRHA
Norah McGuinness trained at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art and at Chelsea in London, before spending
the 1920s working in Dublin as a book illustrator and stage designer. In 1929 she followed the advice of Mainie
Jellett and travelled to Paris to work at the studio of André Lhote. From there she moved to London where she
was a member of the avant-garde London Group, and from 1937-39 she lived in New York. After New York, she
returned to Ireland, settling in Dublin, concentrating on her painting.
Although her work remained figurative, she painted vivid, highly coloured landscapes, and her work shows
the cubist influence of Lhote. She was associated with the modern movement in Ireland and helped found the
Irish Exhibition of Living Art in 1943, becoming its president in 1944 after the death of Mainie Jellett.
With Nano Reid she represented Ireland in the 1950 Venice Biennale, and was elected an honorary member
of the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1957, but later resigned.
There was a retrospective of her work in the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Trinity College Dublin in 1968 and in
1973 the College awarded her an honorary doctorate.
Her work is included in the collections of the National Gallery of Ireland, the Irish Museum of Modern
Art, the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery and the National Library of Ireland, together with private and corporate
collections worldwide.

Arthur K Maderson
Born in 1942 in London, Arthur Maderson studied Fine Art from 1959 to 1963 at Camberwell
School of Art, London, where in 1963 he won the Anna Berry Award in open competition
with graduates from all leading art schools in England. Although Maderson continued to
paint on a regular basis, it was only in 1982, at the age of 40 that he felt sufficiently confident
to exhibit. From this period, he has enjoyed considerable success, and this success has been
replicated in Ireland, where his reputation as a painter of distinction and passion is firmly
established. He works at a frantic pace with dedication, determination and unflagging vigour,

Alan Kenny
Alan Kenny’s artistic journey has involved dramatic changes in style.
Initially a painter in the plein air tradition, his earlier landscapes
were quite conventional. After many years, he abandoned traditional
landscape to develop his own American-flavoured dream-like
vision. Today, he is recognised for his colourful, imaginative and
largely narrative paintings, boasting a vast array of themes, such
as musicians in a romantic, melodious aura with an idyllic sense
of fun and humour. A key component is his rampant, irresistible
exploitation of colour, creating an almost stained-glass effect.

Markey Robinson
A primitive painter, a colourful character, a man of great complexity - these
are all descriptions which have been used to describe Markey Robinson over
the years. Born in Belfast in 1918; Markey Robinson is regarded as one of the
great Northern Masters. In a sixty year career, Markey’s unique and vibrant
paintings fully demonstrate his genius for composition. His signature style
and his range of themes are readily identifiable - rural landscapes, women in
shawls and sad-looking clowns. His work was collected by Queen Elizabeth II
and he is represented in many public and private collections around the globe.
Art Historian, Susan Stairs in her biography on Markey probably summed him
up best when she said of him, ‘there is a genius in our midst’.

Born in Dublin in 1943, of an Austrian father and Irish mother, the family lived in
Carlow for over fifty years. He studied Art and Architecture in Dublin and Munich
and originally made his name as a portrait painter, including many prominent
individuals: Ingrid Bergman, Robert Mitchum, Harold Robbins, the Duke of
Edinburgh and Eamon de Valera to name but a few. Having worked in Saudi Arabia,
he kept an art studio in Provence in the 1970’s, where he was a neighbour of Picasso,
and Le Musee Schwatschke was established, while his work was promoted by noted
Paris dealer Iris Clert. He later moved his studio to Santa Barbara, before finally
returning to Ireland. Schwatschke is well known for his caricatures, which as works
of art, are always intensely personal and somehow universal.

DOLAN’S
Charles Lamb RHA RUA
1893 - 1964
Charles Lamb was one of a group of Irish Artist’s who, during the 1920’s and 30’s found inspiration in
the life and landscape of the West of Ireland. Born in Co Armagh in 1893, Charles Vincent Lamb was the
eldest of seven children, who in 1913 had won a gold medal as best apprentice house painter of the year and
in 1917 he won a scholarship to the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art where he studied for four years and
came under the influence of Sean Keating. At this time, he became profoundly affected by the nationalist
movement which dominated Dublin intellectual and artistic circles of the day. As such, he looked to the
West of Ireland and to the people and traditions of the Gaeltacht, visiting Carraroe for the first time in
1921 and regularly in the years that followed. In these early years, Lamb had met Padraic O’Conaire from
Connemara, who encouraged him to go West and paint the unspoilt landscape and life of the people, in the
Carraroe area in particular, a remote Irish-speaking area, at that time.
In 1919, Charles Lamb had four works selected for the Royal Hibernian Academy and he continued to exhibit
there for the rest of his life. Annual one man shows in Dublin followed and in 1923 he was appointed an
associate of the Royal Hibernian Academy, and by 1924 he was exhibiting at the Magee Gallery in Belfast.
In 1926 and 1927, he toured Brittany, painting peasant life in a manner derived from his experience in the
West of Ireland. The following year, he was back in the West of Ireland, travelling around in a horse-drawn
caravan. An exhibition in Boston USA followed in 1928 and in 1929 and 1930 in New York. Until the mid
1930’s he continued to produce important figure studies, there after he concentrated on landscapes, being
elected a full member of the RHA in 1938. Through the 1930’s, he exhibited work in Dublin, London and
Brussels and as far afield as Los Angeles in 1932, at the Olympic Art Exhibition and in 1933, at the Chicago
World Fair.
Lamb had a house built of local stone in Carraroe in 1935, where he settled and started a Summer School,
while continuing his summer exhibitions. He was also elected a member of the Royal Ulster Academy and
in 1938, he exhibited at the Royal Academy in London. His work was included in the Contemporary Irish
Painting exhibition to North America in 1950. As well as exhibiting at the Oireachtas exhibition in Dublin,
he showed at the Munster Fine Art Club and was a member of the United Arts Club in Dublin. He continued
to paint right up the end of his days and died in Carraroe in 1964. A number of summer exhibitions were
held in the Carraroe studio in the years that followed and a memorial exhibition of his work was held at the
Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery in 1969. It is thought that this work ‘Carraroe, Connemara’, was exhibited
in the 1969 exhibition in Dublin under the title ‘Western Scene’. His work is included in many and varied
important collections, including the Crawford Gallery, Cork, the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, and the
National Gallery of Ireland, together with municipal and university collections across Ireland.

Nano Reid
Nano Reid was born in Drogheda in 1900 and
won a scholarship to the Dublin Metropolitan
School of Art in 1920, where Harry Clarke
became a ‘forceful influence’ in her career. A
fellow student, Hilda van Stockum described
Nano Reid as a ‘fierce red head, with keen
green eyes behind spectacles. From 1925 she
exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy and
intermittently until 1968, forty two works in
all. In 1928, she moved to Paris and attended
La Grande Chaumiere along with fellow Irish
artist, Catherine Fox. She later spent a period
studying in London before returning to Ireland
in 1930. Associated with the Dublin Painters,
her first solo show was at their Stephen’s Green
Gallery in 1934. Many of her paintings feature
the landscapes of the West of Ireland and Achill.
In her second solo show in Dublin in 1936, she
exhibited fifty three watercolours and twenty
three oils, an exhibition that was later brought
to Drogheda, at the request of the Mayor. She
exhibited at the Watercolour Society of Ireland
from 1939-1950 and a writer in The Bell in 1941
considered that her watercolours ‘conveyed
a deep psychological understanding of her
96
landscape subjects, with such economy of her
medium, as to mark her independent merit ...’
Meanwhile, to earn a living, she painted
portraits, including that of Estella Solomons
and Patrick Hennessy. Earlier in 1938, she was
represented at the Irish Drawings and Paintings
Exhibition in New York, while during the War
years, she continued to exhibit at the Dublin
Painters Gallery, illustrated books and in 1943
exhibited at the first the first Irish Exhibition
of Living Art, where the Dublin Magazine
described her as ‘a bold and original painter,
inclined to be rather too energetic in her
approach’. She also exhibited at the Oireachtas
Exhibition, and in 1946 at the Living Irish Art
Exhibition in the Leicester Galleries, London.
She also produces murals in Dublin Zoo and in
the ballroom of the Four Provinces in Harcourt
St, Dublin, none of which survive. From 1947,
she exhibited at the Dawson Gallery, Dublin
and from 1950 at the Victor Waddington
Galleries in Dublin and London, during
which time she lived in Fitzwilliam Square.
Examples of her work toured North America
in 1950 and more importantly in the same
year, she represented Ireland along with Norah
McGuinness at the Venice Biennale. Exhibitions
at Dublin’s Dawson Gallery followed, while she
also exhibited in Lugano in 1956 and at the
Guggenheim International Award Exhibition in
New York in 1960 and at the New York World
Fair in 1964. She was represented in the Arts
Council’s Modern Irish Painting European tour
in 1969-70 and later in the Rosc Exhibition in
Dublin in 1971. The following year, she won the
Douglas Hyde Gold Medal at the Oireachtas
Exhibition. A major retrospective exhibition of
108 of her works dating back to the 1930’s was
held in 1974 by the Arts Councils in Dublin
and Belfast. A close friend of Gerard Dillion,
she painted in the West of Ireland with Dillion
and George Campbell, often using the paint
itself in ‘a spontaneous and even childlike
manner’ Ambiguous about her age throughout
her life, she died in Drogheda in 1981, where a
retrospective exhibition took place in 1991 and
another in 1999, a joint exhibition with Camille
Souter in Castlebar, Co Mayo and yet another
retrospective exhibition at the Taylor Galleries
in Dublin.

Born in 1940, Manus Walsh began his career in the field of stained glass, working for the Abbey
Stained Glass Studios in Dublin, in the sixties. It was during his time there that he met artist,
George Campbell, who became his mentor and friend, and also encouraged him to take up painting
full time. Among Manus’s many stained glass designs are five windows for Galway Cathedral, and
more recently in St John’s Church, Ballyvaughan. The landscape of the Burren has been a constant
inspiration to him for the past thirty years and more, and its barren limestone landscape continues
to be a major influence on his work. Manus has travelled widely, spending considerable periods
of time, in both Spain and Chile, and the Spanish landscape, together with the city of Valparaiso
continue to be a significant influence. Walsh has exhibited widely at home and abroad, including
four exhibitions in South America and numerous one man shows and he is widely regarded as an
important contemporary artist.

College, where he was ordained in 1939. From his
earliest years he was an enthusiastic gardener and
painter, exhibiting for the first time in The Royal
Hibernian Academy at the age of 21. He was exposed
to artistic life in Dublin and abroad, working with
Henrietta Healy in Dublin in the late 1920’s, in
London for a period and had a spell in the studio of
Andre Lhote in Paris, while he also was favoured with
advice from Henri Matisse.
In 1939 he was an exhibitor at the New York
World Fair, had his first one man show in the Victor
Waddington Gallery Dublin in 1941 and exhibited at
the Watercolour Society of Ireland for nearly three
decades. In 1946 this priest-painter, was a member of
the first executive committee of the Irish Exhibition
of Living Art and became a regular exhibitor. In 1948
he won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games art
section in London. While in 1950, he created a mural
for the Irish Pavilion in the Chicago World Fair. He
produced many paintings for religious congregations
in Ireland and vestments, made in 1957 from his
designs, were presented by the Irish Government
to Pope Pius XII. Solo shows at the Dawson Gallery
followed and in 1962, he was awarded the President
Hyde Gold Medal at the Oireachtas Exhibition.
Outside of Ireland, he had one man exhibitions in
Paris, Brussels and Venezuela and more than fifty of
his sketchbooks are in the National Gallery of Ireland.

James le Jeune was born in Canada in 1910 of an Irish Mother and his father, a musician was of French
and English decent. He studied art in London, Paris and New York, serving in North Africa during
the Second World War. Exhibiting in London and Scotland in the late 1940’s, he moved to Ireland in
1950 and in 1951 began exhibiting at the Royal Hibernian Academy, where, with the exception of a few
years, he was a regular exhibitor until 1982. Meanwhile, he continued to exhibit in London at the Royal
Society of Portrait Painters, the Watercolour Society and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Le Jeune’s
first one man show was held at the Victor Waddington Galleries, Dublin in 1954. By 1961 he had a
studio at Baggot Lane and became a full member of the RHA in 1973. His many portraits included
the comedian Jimmy O’Dea now in the National Collection. Perhaps, best known for his depiction of
children playing on the beach, the present work on offer demonstrates his outstanding ability.

Charles McAuley
Charles McAuley was born in the
Glens of Antrim in 1910. Despite
being from a small rural village,
Charles pursued painting from
an early age, in an area where
farming was one of the main
sources of life and income.
Early in his life he was
spotted by James Humbert
Craig, who encouraged him and
that influence inspired his early
work. A landscape and figurative
painter, his work depicted the
rivers, mountains, seascapes and
rural life that surrounded him.
Many of his paintings are
in private collections, others are
in the collections of the Ulster
Museum and Queens University.

Born in Belfast in April 1916, Dillon moved to London in 1934 and while working
in various jobs, he used his earnings to buy art materials and visit galleries. He first
visited Connemara in 1939, where the landscape and the people were to provide
inspiration for his painting, and was to spend much time in the Roundstone area with
George Campbell. He had many exhibitions in London, Dublin and Belfast, and also
exhibited in America. A large Retrospective Exhibition of his work consisting of 104

DOLAN’S
TERMS & CONDITIONS OF SALE
1. Definitions
In these Conditions, West of Ireland Art Auctions Limited,
trading as Dolan’s Art Auction House, who act as auctioneers
and agents for the vendor, are called ‘The Auctioneers’
(which expression shall be deemed to include their servants
and agents) and the representative of Dolan’s Art Auction
House conducting the auction is called ‘The Auctioneer’. As
auctioneers, Dolan’s act as agent for the seller. A sale contract
is made directly between the seller and the buyer. However,
Dolan’s may own a lot (and in such circumstances act in a
principal capacity as seller) and/or may have a legal, beneficial
or financial interest in a lot.
2. Third Party Liability
Every person at or on the ‘Auctioneers’ premises or at any
premises being used by the Auctioneer at any time shall be
deemed to be there entirely at his/her own risk and shall
have no claim whatsoever against the Auctioneers or their
servants or agents in respect of any accident or incident which
may occur, nor any injury, damage or loss howsoever arising
and whether or not same is the subject of any allegation of
negligence.
3. General
Whilst the Auctioneers make every effort to ensure the
accuracy of their catalogue and the description of every lot:
a) Each lot as set out in the catalogue or as divided or combined
with any other lot or lots is sold by the vendor with all faults,
imperfections and errors of description.
b) The auctioneer shall not be responsible for any
discrepancies between the colour in the catalogue illustration
and that of the original work being offered for sale.
c) Any claim under any Statute must be received in writing by
the Auctioneers within three months of the sale.
d) The Auctioneers shall not be liable for consequential or
resultant loss or damage whether sustained by a Vendor
or a Purchaser or the owner of any item or their respective
servants and agents arising in any circumstances whatsoever
and irrespective of any claim made by any party as to
negligence or lack of care of the Auctioneers or any party
acting on their behalf.
e) All lots are made available for inspection for a reasonable
period prior to auction. A buyer who makes a bid for any
lot thereby acknowledges that he has satisfied himself as to
the physical condition, state of repair or restoration, age and
catalogue description of such lot and also that he accepts these
conditions of sale.
Dolan’s knowledge, in relation to each lot, is partially
dependent on information provided by the seller and Dolan’s
are not able to, and do not, carry out exhaustive due diligence
searches on each lot. Bidders acknowledge this fact and accept
responsibility for carrying out inspections and investigations
to satisfy themselves as to the lots they may be interested in
buying. Bidders also acknowledge the fact that many lots are
of an age that they may not be in perfect condition. All lots are
offered for sale with any imperfections. Catalogue descriptions
and condition reports may on occasions make reference to
particular imperfections of a lot, but Bidders should note
that lots may have other faults not expressly referred to in the
catalogue or condition report. Illustrations are for identification
purposes only and will not convey full information as to the
actual condition of lots.
4. The Auction
a) The Auctioneer has absolute discretion to divide any lot, to
combine any two or more lots or to withdraw any lot or lots
from the sale, to refuse bids, regulate bidding or cancel the sale
without in any case giving any reason or previous notice. He
may bid on behalf of the vendor for all goods which are being
offered subject to reserve or at the Auctioneer’s discretion.
b) The highest bidder shall be the buyer except in the case
of a dispute. If during the auction the Auctioneer considers
that a dispute has arisen, he has absolute discretion to settle
it or to re-offer the lot for sale. The Auctioneer may at his sole
discretion determine the advance or bidding or refuse a bid.
138
c) Each lot is put up for sale subject to any reserve price placed
by the vendor. Whether or not there is a reserve price the seller
has the right to bid either personally or by any other person
(who may be the Auctioneer).
d) All conditions, notices, descriptions, statements and other
matters in the catalogue and elsewhere concerning any lot are
subject to any statements modifying or affecting the same
made by the Auctioneer from the rostrum prior to any bid
being accepted for the lot.
5. Rescindment
Notwithstanding any other terms of these Conditions, if
within 12 months after the sale, the Auctioneers have received
from the buyer any notice in writing that in his view the lot
is a deliberate forgery and within twenty one days after such
notification the buyer returns the same to the Auctioneers
in the same condition as at the time of sale and by producing
evidence, the burden of proof to be upon the buyer, satisfies
the Auctioneers that considered in the light of the entry in the
catalogue the lot is a deliberate forgery, then the sale of the lot
will be rescinded and the purchase price of the sale refunded.
In the event of a dispute then the matter shall be settled by
the President of the Institution of Chartered Surveyors in the
Republic of Ireland. Both the buyer and the vendor agree to be
bound by the decision.
6. Default
The Auctioneers disclaim responsibility for default by either
the buyer or the vendor because they act as Agents for the
vendor only and therefore do not pay out to the vendor until
payment is received from the buyer. Instructions given by
telephone are accepted at the sender’s risk and must be
confirmed in writing forthwith. In the event of a sale by
private treaty both the vendor and the buyer agree to be bound
by these conditions and any other special conditions of sale.
7. Retention of Title
All goods remain the property of the vendor until paid for in
full. The Auctioneers will not assume liability to discharge net
proceeds arising from the sale of goods until those goods have
been paid for in full.
8. Instructions
All goods delivered to the Auctioneers’ premises will be
deemed to be delivered for sale by auction and will be
catalogued and sold at the discretion of the Auctioneer
and accepted by them subject to all the Sale Conditions. By
delivering the goods to the Auctioneers for inclusion in their
auction sales the vendor acknowledges that he or she has
accepted and agreed to be bound by all these Conditions.
9. Collection and Deliveries
The Auctioneers do not normally undertake the packing,
collection or delivery of goods but will if requested use their
best endeavours as Agent of the Owner to arrange for an
independent contractor on the owner’s behalf to deal with
packing, collection and/or delivery. The Auctioneer will not in
any event arrange insurance of the goods and will accordingly
not be liable for any loss or damage to goods howsoever arising
including breakages or for any damage to premises, fixtures or
fittings therein caused by such contractor or otherwise and the
owner is responsive for all arrangements to verify that any such
contractor and the goods is/are appropriately insured. Unless
instructions are received to the contrary, charges (including
VAT) for such services will be charged to the vendor’s account
or discharged through the Auctioneers by the purchaser as
the case may be. The Auctioneers’ liability (if any) will arise
only where they themselves carry out packing and collection/
delivery and only in the case of breakage or loss caused through
deliberate negligence of their employees and in any event in
one single contract and the Auctioneers’ liability will not exceed
C = 500. Provided further the Auctioneers will not be liable for
consequential loss in any circumstances whatsoever.
10. Loss or Damage and Storage
The Auctioneers reserve the right to store or arrange for the
storage of goods held by them or delivered to them either on
their own premises or elsewhere at their sole discretion and
entirely at the owner’s risk. The Auctioneers shall not be
liable for any loss (including consequential loss) howsoever
caused or damage to goods of any kind including breakages,
or for unauthorised removal of goods.
11. Right to Re-sell
The Auctioneer reserves the right to re-sell any item that has
not been collected within fourteen days.
12. Telephone bidding
Every effort will be made to facilitate persons wishing to bid by
telephone at auction but the auctioneer disclaims responsibility
for any failures for whatever reason, in this regard.
13. Absentee Bidding
Every effort will be made to facilitate persons wishing to
leave commission bids with the auctioneer but the auctioneer
disclaims responsibility for any failures for whatever reason,
in this regard.
14. Droit de Suite
The artist’s resale levy, the droit de suite, where applicable,
will be deemed to be the responsibility of the vendor. Dolan’s
Art Auction House will not charge this levy to the purchaser.
The vendor by entering his goods for sale with Dolan’s Art
Auction House acknowledges that he/she is responsible for
the payment of this artist’s resale levy. Dolan’s Art Auction
House will not be responsible for payment of the droit de
suite and the vendor by entering his/her goods for sale
acknowledges that he/she has accepted and agreed to be
bound by this condition of sale. Furthermore Dolan’s Art
Auction House accepts goods for sale from the vendor on
the condition that the vendor authorizes Dolan’s Art Auction
House to withhold monies due for payment of the droit de
suite from the auction proceeds due to the vendor, and the
vendor further authorizes Dolan’s Art Auction House to
pay the droit de suite, on the vendors behalf, to the artist.
Furthermore the vendor acknowledges that the droit de suite
payment where applicable will be charged to the vendors
account in addition to the vendors commission charged
by the auctioneer and any illustration or other charges
applicable to the account.
15. Special Conditions
PURCHASER:
a) The purchaser shall pay a commission to the auctioneer,
viz. a Buyer’s Premium, of 20% plus VAT on the hammer
price of each lot.
b) The Purchaser acknowledges that the auctioneer may also
receive a commission from the vendor.
c) All accounts must be discharged by certified cheque, bank
draft or cash. The auctioneer reserves the right not to release
goods until cheque payments have been cleared by the bank.
Credit cards are also accepted with a 2.5% surcharge.
Non-Irish debit cards will incur a 2.5% surcharge
d) Responsibility for items purchased passes to the purchaser
on the fall of the hammer. The Auctioneers reserve the right
to look for a 25% deposit on all goods.
e) The buyer authorises the Auctioneer to use any
photographs, drawings or illustrations of any lot purchased by
the buyer, and, to indicate the price paid at auction for the lot,
and the buyer acknowledges that same may be used for any
advertising, promotional or other such purposes.
16. P
urchasers will NOT be charged the Artists Resale Levy.
17. VAT Regulations:
All lots are sold within the Auctioneers VAT margin scheme.
Revenue regulations require that the buyers premium must
be invoiced at a rate which is inclusive of VAT. This VAT is
NOT recoverable by any VAT registered buyers.
18. Special Notice To Purchaser
Prospective purchasers are advised that several countries
prohibit the importation of property containing materials
from endangered species, including but not limited to coral,
ivory and tortoiseshell. Accordingly, prospective purchasers
should familiarize themselves with relevant customs
regulations prior to bidding , if they intend to import such
items into another country.
