TUTORIAL TOOLBOX CROSS REFERENCE SEARCH CROSS REFERENCE SEARCH WILDCARD SEARCH CONTINUED If you know the middle of the part number, then enter % at the start, followed by the digits you have, then and add another % at the end, example %XXXX% If you know the end of the part number, then enter % at the start, followed by the digits you have, example %XXXX When using the Cross Reference search, you can enter up to 10 part numbers in one search. Do not include any spaces, -, /, \, or any other symbols. Part numbers entered here must be complete and correct for a successful search. Press the Tab key on your keyboard to move to the next field. Hit the Enter key, or click on the FIND button to perform a search. The wildcard (%) can also be placed anywhere in the part number. For example, if you are replacing a filter, and part of the middle of the part number has become unreadable, replace that section with %. Example XXX%XXX AUTOMATCH SEARCH The Automatch search is a helpful way to make sure you have the correct part number. This search is particularly helpful when cross referencing hydraulic cartridges. For example if you have tried entering a part number into Cross Reference search with unsuccessful results, you can try entering the number into Automatch. When you begin typing a part number, the Automatch field will show a list of part numbers in the database where the starting numbers match the characters you have typed. Use your mouse to choose a number from the list, then click the search icon to perform a search. WILDCARD SEARCH The Wildcard search is particularly useful for when you only have some digits of a part number to search. The Wildcard search uses the % symbol to substitute for a section of a part number. There are several ways you can use the Wildcard search, each is explained below. If you know the start of the part number you can enter the first few digits you have with the % at the end, example XXXX%, then click the search icon to perform a search. Your search results should display all parts in the database that start with the digits you entered and end with any combination of digits. Another option for this example is to use the Automatch search. You can use this filter in conjunction with the Cross Reference, Automatch or Wild Card search options. After you have entered your search terms into one of the search options, begin entering a name and the Manufacturer field will show a list of manufacturers that match the characters you have typed. Use your mouse to choose a manufacturer’s name from the list, then click the search icon to perform a search. Please note, if you have chosen a manufacturer that does not match the part number you are searching, no results will display. Tutorial No. 14TB0004 (02/14) © 2014 Donaldson Company, Inc.
