We have been growing tree fruits in Lake Country since 1949. We have 45 acres of high density apples including Sunrise, Gala & Ambrosia. We also have a 10 acre vineyard. Our farm is west facing overlooking Okanagan Lake. We speak English and French. Job Description: The Vineyard & Orchard Worker is an energetic and motivated individual who carries out tasks such as pruning, raking, tree & vine training, shoot thinning, apple thinning, leaf removal, picking, trellis maintenance and irrigation repairs. The position is split between the orchard and the vineyard with some work in teams and some alone. The position is full time and nearly year round. No on-farm accommodation is available for this position. Duties: − − − − − − − Pruning, raking, tree & vine training, shoot thinning, apple thinning, leaf removal, and picking Trellis maintenance and irrigation repairs Work with pruning shears, pole saw and pneumatic pruners Use ladders safely on slopes Reporting hazards and equipment damage to supervisor in a timely fashion Take part in Health and Safety training Participate in On Farm Food Safety Hours: − − ~40hrs/week with seasonal fluctuations and extended periods during peak times 11 months / year Skills: − Physically fit with good agility and stamina − Be a flexible team player who works well in a busy and demanding environment − Able to bend, lift, twist and stand/walk for 8 hours per day − Ability to distinguish red and green colours − Ability to self-motivate while doing repetitive tasks − Valid BC Driver’s Licence with clean record − Consistent attendance and punctuality − Strong communication skills − Able to follow detailed directions − Attention to detail and accurate reporting Experience: − One year horticultural experience − Level 1 First Aid an asset − Viticulture Certificate an asset Wage: Employment Status: − $14.00/ hour − Full Time, Seasonal Please note: − Applicants must be legal to work in Canada and possess valid Social Insurance Numbers (SIN) − Overtime provisions do not apply for agricultural positions − Work hours are dependent on weather and crop volume Please apply online at www.dorenbergorchards.ca
